Introduction: Talk about the sense of duty that fills the mind of a person who is given a task by an authoritative figure.
Explain the sense of urgency and serious that accompanies the person who is given strict orders from someone high in command, Like orders from the president.
I will have you know my brother Aaron, that tomorrow, you will be tasked with a lifelong order of loving your fiance, Jenna Parker. A command given by God himself. Let’s go ahead and take a look at your instructions.
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,
So, how are you going to do it? How will you fulfill this life-long demand you will be called to meet every day?
I suppose we could try and rely and rely on our most accurate perception of love as a group of seven 21-22 year old, unmarried men, but instead, we can learn from none other than Jesus Christ himself. Let’s consider three characteristics of Christ’s love, and apply it to husbands are supposed to love their wives.
Let’s consider three characteristics of Christ’s love for the church, and apply it to how we can love our future wives.
1. Christ’s love was tangible (gave)
Christ’s love didn’t manifest itself in nothing, but in action
2. Christ’s self giving love was purposeful
Christ’s love was for the church’s good (for her)
3. Christ’s self giving love was costly (himself)
Christ’s love for the church came at the expense of his own life
Christ’s love for his church and for you clearly defines how we ought to love our spouses
