Influenced by the wrong crowd
Disobedience
No Fear of the Lord
Sowing to the flesh and not the Spirit
Discontent
6. We have decieved ourselves and are pretending we already have peace when we don’t-
Jeremiah 6:14 “They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly, Saying, ‘Peace, peace!’ When there is no peace.”
Ezekiel 13:10 ““Because, indeed, because they have seduced My people, saying, ‘Peace!’ when there is no peace—and one builds a wall, and they plaster it with untempered mortar—”
7. Believing the wrong voices
Jeremiah 14:13 “Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Behold, the prophets say to them, ‘You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.’ ””
2 Timothy 4:3-4 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”
8. Stubborness/hard hearted-
Jeremiah 23:17 “They continually say to those who despise Me, ‘The Lord has said, “You shall have peace” ’; And to everyone who walks according to the dictates of his own heart, they say, ‘No evil shall come upon you.’ ””
Dictates- stubbornness/hardness
9. Not seeking peace-
1 Peter 3:11 “Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it.”
10. Not trusting God- Not resisting fear
Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”
John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.””
Don’t just give in! Resist!
11. Being critical of others/offense
James 5:9 “Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!”
Galatians 5:15 “But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!”
Matthew 7:1-5 ““Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
Proverbs 18:19 “A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city, And contentions are like the bars of a castle.”
12. Resisting God instead of submitting to God
Greg Laurie “You cannot have the peace OF God if you do not have peace WITH God.
Romans 8:5-7 “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.”
Enmity= opposition, hostility, hatred
13. Unhealthy view of self- Self-hate, unworthisness
Proverbs 19:8 “He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good.”
Mark 12:28-31 “Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?” Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.””
14. You can’t have the peace of God if you don’t walk in the purpose of God!
Next week we will be looking at exactly what to do in order to gain peace.
