Now Joseph had been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, had bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there. The Lord was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, and he was in the house of his Egyptian master.
“The Lord was with Joseph”
When you look back over your life we have to recognize that God was with us!
His master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord caused all that he did to succeed in his hands.
Potiphar who was an Egyptian
Who served the Gods of Egypt
Potiphar could not deny that the Lord was with him!
The Lord caused all that he did to succeed in his hands!
The Lord was with him!
With: accompanied by (another person or thing).
Accompanied: go somewhere with (someone) as a companion or escort.
The Lord caused him to be successful!
Question!
Do you know how valuable you are?
Do you know that you are an environment changer?
Do you know that you have corporate influence?
Do you know that you have neighborhood influence?
From the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had, in house and field.
“From the time that he made him overseer”
The Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake!
They don’t even know......
So he left all that he had in Joseph’s charge, and because of him he had no concern about anything but the food he ate.
Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.
And after a time his master’s wife cast her eyes on Joseph and said, “Lie with me.”
But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Behold, because of me my master has no concern about anything in the house, and he has put everything that he has in my charge.
He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?”
How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?
The word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem, Thus says the Lord,
“I remember the devotion of your youth,
your love as a bride,
how you followed me in the wilderness,
in a land not sown.
Joseph was falsely accused of a crime he did not commit!
As soon as his master heard the words that his wife spoke to him, “This is the way your servant treated me,” his anger was kindled. And Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined, and he was there in prison.
But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
And the keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever was done there, he was the one who did it.
The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph’s charge, because the Lord was with him. And whatever he did, the Lord made it succeed.
Cupbearer and the Baker
Some time after this, the cupbearer of the king of Egypt and his baker committed an offense against their lord the king of Egypt. And Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker, and he put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison where Joseph was confined.
And one night they both dreamed—the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison—each his own dream, and each dream with its own interpretation.
The dreams caused them to be troubled!
They said to him, “We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.” And Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me.”
Joseph give the interpretation of the dreams....
He tells the cupbearer…
Only remember me, when it is well with you, and please do me the kindness to mention me to Pharaoh, and so get me out of this house.
Remember me!
Just because the Lord is with me and causing me to succeed doesn’t mean that I see him working for me.
Potiphar saw the Lord was with Joseph / The keeper of the prison saw how valuable Jospeh was.
But does it mean that Jospeh could see it?
“Please do me the kindness to mention me to Pharaoh, and so get me out of the house”
I don’t care about being in charge of prison matters!
I’m in prison!
Please do me the kindness to mention me - Can I catch a break?
I don’t deserve this!
Your feelings are valid!
There are moments in my life that I didn’t see God in it.
Don’t make me feel bad because I felt forgotten
He did not say this to God....
He spoke this to the cupbearer
Joseph had a honest transparent moment!
For I was indeed stolen out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the pit.”
I was stolen
Stolen: to be stolen v. — to be taken without the owner’s consent (of possessions).
I have done nothing
I am not telling you to get over it!
I want you to know that your feelings matter.
It’s hard to see God in it…
I’m not over it.... Because I feel like I didn’t deserve It!
Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.
I’m not over it!
I feel like..... they forgot about me!
