I. Pay Close Attention to the Gospel vs. 1
I. Pay Close Attention to the Gospel vs. 1
A. The message that we have heard we must pay attention to not dilute it in any way. Gal. 1:6-8
I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel;
which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.
But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!
B. We are all in danger of drifting from the right way. Some drift faster than others. (Santee trot lines ex).
II. Penalties For Neglect vs. 2-3a
II. Penalties For Neglect vs. 2-3a
A. The Jews believed that angels played a role in giving the law to Moses. They did, but their role is not specified. Yet Yahweh spoke to Moses directly. Acts 7:38
“This is the one who was in the congregation in the wilderness together with the angel who was speaking to him on Mount Sinai, and who was with our fathers; and he received living oracles to pass on to you.
Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made.
And the Lord said to them, “Now listen to what I say:
“If there were prophets among you,
I, the Lord, would reveal myself in visions.
I would speak to them in dreams.
But not with my servant Moses.
Of all my house, he is the one I trust.
I speak to him face to face,
clearly, and not in riddles!
He sees the Lord as he is.
So why were you not afraid
to criticize my servant Moses?”
B. Every violation of the law, had a punishment. How much more could that punishment be, if we neglect, take light, the glorious salvation of the Lord? Waste our lives?
III. Proof of the Message vs. 3b-4
III. Proof of the Message vs. 3b-4
A. The gospel came from the Lord Himself.
B. Then those who witnessed, preached and wrote it down. Luke’s gospel was backed up by witnesses and historical research.
C. Then those who heard (including the author) believed. Another reason I believe that Barnabas was the author of Hebrews. Rom. 10:13-14
for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?
D. It was substantiated by miracles, and other sign gifts because they didn’t have the complete Word of God yet. II Cor. 12:12
The signs of a true apostle were performed among you with all perseverance, by signs and wonders and miracles.
Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not my work in the Lord?
What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life—
E. This gospel is the only one, and the only way we can be saved. Will we waste our lives, or will we make it the priority of our lives?
