2 Peter 1:1–4 ESV
Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
V. 1-
“faith of equal standing”
Do you ever look at Christians who have been following Jesus for a long time , and just think your just nowhere as good as them?
Do you compare yourselves and think that there faith is just so much more real to them?
Peter is encouraging the believers in reminding them that there faith and walk with God is just as real and equal as his own.
We are all on the same playing field in the Kingdom of God.
This equality is because we are all bought and brought into the Kingdom by Jesus’s goodness and not our own.
V. 2-
“May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge”
What knowledge is he talking about what?/ Knowledge about what?
This is at its barest level knowledge about God and what He has done to save us.
Knowledge about our salvation is the greatest comfort to a believer.
V. 3-
Jesus’s Power has granted us everything we need in order to live a godly life.
There’s no secret trick to living a godly life, but instead Jesus has given us everything.
Good dads don’t hold back
The question is how has Jesus given us this?
Through knowledge of Himself.
In knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior, God has revealed Himself, given us a new heart that wants Him, and gave us eyes to see the world for what it really is.
Jesus truly has truly given us everything when He calls us into His family.
V. 4-
Part of this everything are all the promises of God.
God promises
Eternal life
Holy Spirit
Security
Provision
Love
Mercy
Etc.
The point here though is not focusing in on the promises but instead it is all about the benefit of these promises.
First we are partakers of the divine nature
We’ve got the Holy Spirit guiding us, protecting us, and comforting us
Second we escape the corruption of the World
God has freed us from the World
Why should we look different from the World?
Why don’t we?
