Isaiah 40:28–31 NKJV
28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, 31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
We are in urgent need of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Take time out to stop, be refreshed, eat and drink and in this time be willing to listen to God’s quiet voice. We find this in 2 Kings where Elijah who had seen a remarkable thing in that his prayer was answered by fire then had his life threatened by Jezebel and he went on the run. Spiritually and mentally exhausted he was now praying to die. From the high to the low. But God answered his prayer by feeding him and not letting him die. Sometimes we just need to stop a while. This is clear from the verse for this year:
Be still and know that I am God. (Ps 46:10)
I am so tired at the moment and my brain is a bit of a fog. So, I also need to hear for these verses turn us back to the Lord. Look to God. He is not tired. He is with us. He empowers us. Sometimes we are looking for direction when it is not direction we need. It is strength to keep on keeping on. We are not waiting for direction so much as we are waiting for Him.
If we read the last verse of Isaiah 40 carefully we notice there are three things we can do when we are refreshed and none of the three can be true at the same time: we can fly like eagles or we can run or we can walk. To walk with the Lord everyday and to keep on keeping on.
And remember that God always has the victory as the whole of this verse says:
Psalm 46:10 NKJV
10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
When we come together we are seeking the mind of Christ, so let us quieten our souls and be still before we pray:
Heavenly Father, be with us this and every day As we travel on the way. Grant us such a vision of your love that No task may seem too demanding No path too difficult for us to tread No journey too long And bring us home at last to your eternal Kingdom Through Jesus Christ our Lord
