This week was Wack Camp. If you didn’t know, Wack stands for Worshiping Art Camp for Kids. At Wack camp the kids of our church and community created cool things in different groups. Some kids cooked meals for the Sunset Home where Crystal Carr lives, other kids built planters for John C Meyers Elementary, other kids went and did lawn and garden projects for a widow in our community, and others helped give the playground and basketball court a face lift. Some of our friends did arts and crafts, and some danced and did music. We had a blast!
Because of the WACK Camp creations we decided to talk about God’s creation of the Earth.
If you open a Bible to the first page, this is the first story you read about God; that probably means this story is pretty important! If God didn’t create the Earth, then none us would be here. We wouldn’t be able to praise God.
Genesis:1 tells us that God created the earth in six days and rested on the seventh. First God created the light and the darkness, he called the light day and the dark night.
On the second day he created the sky and the atmosphere that surrounds Earth, and he called it heaven. He also separated the water and created dry land. He called the waters seas and he called the dry land Earth.
On the third God created vegetation and fruit trees bearing fruit according to its kind. The Earth brought forth vegetation and fruit trees bearing fruit according to its kind. God saw that it was good.
On the fourth day God created lights in the expanse of heaven. They were signs of seasons, days and years. He made two lights. The greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night.
On the fifth day God created sea and land creatures. He blessed them to be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters and the land. God made living land animals like livestock and creeping things on the ground. He created the beasts that roam the lands.
On the sixth day God created Man. He let them have dominion over the land and the sea animals. He created male and female.
Some people say that god created man out of dust. Thats why we tell our mom we dont like to clean our room because we could sweep away our friend.
On the seventh day God finished the work that he has done, and then he rested. He rested from all the work that he has done. He blessed the seventh day and made it holy.
So Elijah when someone someone says what would Jesus do taking a nap is always an option.
Maybe that means God likes to sleep in like I do.
Every day god made something new. He saw that his creations were good. We saw some good stuff at wack camp. There was some good artwork, there was good food, also a good skit about Joseph performed by the clowning and puppetry groups.
Hey Aiden i think we are a lot like god when we create things that are good. Dontcha think?
Yea i think you’re exactly right!
Genesis 1 teaches us really some cool things. Like that god is able to do anything, because he created the whole entire world by himself. He is so powerful because he created dry land and seas. He also created the sun and set the planets in order. God is so big that he created the big blue whale and the ants. One time we were building a fort in our back field but the walls wouldn’t stay up on their own and it kept falling on us. We were trying different ways and it still didn’t work. Its amazing to think that we couldn’t even build a fort on our own and and god can create the entire universe in only six days. That’s how powerful God is!
The story also shows us that God wants us to work and to rest at the right time. God worked and rested in this story and both are really important. Aiden and I love to play basketball. But when we have played for 10 minutes straight in one quarter we have to take a break and get some water to catch our breath. We need a break sometimes so we can play the best we can the next time coach puts us in. God wants us to work hard but he also wants us to rest so we can do a good job in everything we do. God doesn’t want us to just sit around and do nothing all the time. He wants us to do something productive whenever we can. If i don’t work and feed my cows, then they will starve and die. Part of my work every day is feeding my cows to make sure that doesn’t happen. One of our summer jobs is staining our fence. We work on one section a day and then rest once we are done with that section. God didn’t create the whole world in one day, he did it in pieces at different times. Sometimes we have to take our time just like God did.
The last thing we learned from this story is that even if someone doesn’t believe in God he will still love them. I remember one time when me and Elijah were little and we were playing baseball and we didn’t know how and i threw the baseball at Elijah and hit him in the head. Well my parents were obviously mad at me because I hurt their favorite child. But they never stopped loving me. That is an example of how god always loves you even if you don’t believe. We all have people in our life that don’t believe in him but he still loves. But we shouldn’t be mean to them we should show them the love of god. In the beginning everything was good and perfect. Man had fellowship with God. But Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit and sin took over. Sin causes some people to not believe in God. We need to not let sin take us over but we should follow God every day. Sometimes it is hard to stop sin from taking over us. But when it is really hard we just need to calm ourselves down and realize that sin is wrong. We need to stop what we are doing and talk to God. Ask him to forgive you for sinning. You will be surprised on how different you will feel after he washes your sins away. So today take some time to pray and ask God to forgive you. Trust me, he will forgive you.
Ending Prayer. Dear God, Thank you for this wonderful day and the wonderful people in this church. Today i ask you to forgive everyone in this place God. Wash their sins away, because we know you are capable of doing it. You are capable of doing anything God. I hope everyone has a good rest of the day. In your name we pray AMEN.
