Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
RELIGION WITHOUT GOD
Many people and churches have religion without reality.
They have religion without righteousness.
They have a form of Christianity, but deny its power.
There is a big difference from being religious and being righteous.
Religion without God is:
(1) Foolish. Who is man to live without God?
(2) Faithless. Without faith, we cannot know God.
(3) Futile. What profit in religion, if it does not help and change you?
We have religion without God because man had added his viewpoints and inventions.
Because of this, many churches are not much different than clubs … they have religion, but not Christ!
WITHOUT CHRIST
1. Formality
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
A skelton may have a form of a human being, but it has no life!
All may have a personal relationship with Christ
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
2. Faithless
I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
Here Jesus asks, “When the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”
Paul tells us that even after the people knew about God, they did not glorify Him—Romans 1:21–23
Too often Christ is like a spare time to many people.
3. Fearless—having no respect toward God!
The Bible says that in the last days, there would be scoffers, not believing that Christ is coming—
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
When people do not respect God, they will not respect the school teacher, policeman, etc.
Some say “God is dead.” God is not dead! Man is dead in his sins.
He does not want Christ, because Christ will expose his sins!
II. WITHOUT CONTROL
1. Uncontrolled attitudes
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Everyday we must have discipline.
Too many people have the “I don’t care” attitude.
All Christians should be concerned with what people think about them.
2. Uncontrolled actions
As Christians we must be good examples.
The enemies of Daniel could find no fault in him
Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
Our actions are more important than our words!
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
a. We are ambassadors
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
b. We are epistles
Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
3. Uncontrolled affections
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Loving the people, places, practices, and pleasures of the world.
If we love Christ, we will not love the world!
4. Uncontrol toward authorities.
We should obey those who are over us. Do not criticize your Mayor, Governor, President—pray for them!
Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
III. WITHOUT CONSECRATION
1. Leisure living—2 Timothy 3:4. Loving pleasure more than loving the Lord. Self and pleasure comes before God. Those who enjoy pleasure more than God are dead while they live—1 Timothy 5:6.
2. Loose living—2 Timothy 3:1–5. Here is a picture of people in the last days before Christ comes! Many will say, “Eat, drink, and be merry.”—Luke 12:19.
3. Loveless living—1 Corinthians 13. No love for God. No love for the nation. No love for others!
Love causes us to do many things. If we love God, He will have our life and our worship!
God is not dead. God has been taken out of religion, so religion has become dead! God is not living within man, so man is dead in his sins!
Life without God is hopeless and helpless! When the living Christ lives in you, you will have enjoyable, exciting, and eternal life!
