God’s Providence
Turn to John 4
Confessing the Faith: The 1689 Baptist Confession for the 21st Century (V. Divine Providence)
God the good Creator of all things, in His infinite power and wisdom, upholds, directs, arranges and governs all creatures and things, from the greatest to the least, by His perfectly wise and holy providence, to the purpose for which they were created. He governs according to His infallible foreknowledge and the free and unchangeable counsel of His own will. His providence leads to the praise of the glory of His wisdom, power, justice, infinite goodness and mercy.
The lot will be cast into the lap, but all of its decisions are from Yahweh.
Joseph to his brothers
As for you, you planned evil against me, but God planned it for good, in order to do this—to keep many people alive—as it is today.
And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose,
The people who crucified Jesus
this man, delivered up by the determined plan and foreknowledge of God, you executed by nailing to a cross through the hand of lawless men.
Nebuchadnezzar said look at what I have done
“But at the end of that period, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and then my reason returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and the one who lives forever I praised and I honored. “For his sovereignty is an everlasting sovereignty, and his kingdom continues from generation to generation. And all the dwellers of the earth are regarded as nothing, and he does according to his desire in the host of heaven and among the dwellers of earth, and there is not one who can hold back his hand, or ask him, ‘What are you doing?’

V 7 The woman came to draw water, alone at noon, outcast,
V 16-18 the woman started along time ago building up to the time she is an outcast
God’s Goal of saving this town started decades before this meeting with Jesus at the well
Joseph 150+ years in the making Abraham left Haran, Issac had a wife from Haran, Laban’s sister, Jacob was sent to Laban to hide out for a while, fell in love with Rachel, tricked into marrying Leah, Joseph was born # 11 was most loved, hated by his brothers sold into slavery, became prime minister saved his people from starvation
Jesus death on the cross 1000 years in the making
God through history is in control
V 19 She is realizing that God is involved here
she wants to change the subject
She does not want to be confronted by God
She does not realize that God is there to save her, and her town
