James 1:22–25 NIV
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
For you and I to even the beginning of thinking about the scriptures.
We have to talk about the issue of worldview.
Without knowing we are all being trained by the world on what to think.
Where do you get the foundation of your thinking in life? About Marriage, raising children, job issues, financial life, relationships, sex ...
The bible has answers for everything, questions, and trials, for everything we go through in life.
Maybe you have no idea what the Bible has to say about dating, sex before marige, parenting ,
Where did you get your worldview of dating, your worldview of marriage,.
maybe like everyone else from movies, from culture, from Friends. God confronts the wrong worldview with scriptures.
'Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. ' Matthew 22:29
Matthew 22:29 (NIV)
29 Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.
This issue of worldview is found in many places in the Bible. In Psalm 1 Describes this tension between worldview's
Psalm 1:1–3 (NIV)
1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.
Without being in the scriptures you will end up living like the world does. Like everyone else.
EX: A pastor was talking to some people and he asked: How many of you want your children to follow the Lord? How many of you are willing to sacrifice for your children? How many of you know the 3 scriptures in raising children?
There is no transformation of character, there is no transformation of life without obedience and application of the scriptures.
' But be sure you live out the message and do not merely listen to it and so deceive yourselves. ' James 1:22
James 1:22 (NIV)
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
I am studying a book with couple of men and I have learned that it is important to be a man of the word.
Ezekiel 33:31–32 NIV
My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice. Their mouths speak of love, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain. Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice.
There was a businessman who thought like this before he came to Christ and he said:
Get all you can, can all you get, and poison the rest
Greed is a real issue The whole world is being driven by it.
How do we grow into being a Christian, a person, of the word?

The Learning Pyramid - knowledge retention rates

Passive teaching method - 5% lectures; 10% reading; 20% Audio/visual; 30% Demonstration;
Participatory teaching methods - 50% Discussion groups; 75% Pratice by doing; 90% teach others
A Man of the word is Capable to walk with God, to raise their children, remain married, administrate their finances, go through difficult times, loves working, morally pure and lives to make a difference for something eternal.. '
Psalm 119:92 NIV
If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.
Have you ever been in a situation that a verse make to mind and help you goi through
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV - ' Every scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the person dedicated to God may be capable and equipped for every good work.'
2 Timothy 3:16–17 NIV
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God  may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Multiple times in the scriptures God ties a men Who meditates on the word of God to personal success.
Joshua 1:8 NIV
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Psalm 1:3 NIV
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.
Throughout the scriptures, God ties these two things together.
Because if you stop living a live According to a worldly worldview, and you start living your life according to the scripture, a biblical worldview, God can bless that.
But the goal is to not keep it to yourself but just like we saw in the learning pyramid we need to teach others.
The goal is that you get the scriptures into your heart, you experience the blessing of that scripture, And now you have a story and how you can use it in someone else's life.
This is the core of discipleship, the base.
Matthew 28:20 ' teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:20 NIV
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
And we see this throughout the scripture.
Colossians 1:28 ' We proclaim him by instructing and teaching all people with all wisdom so that we may present every person mature in Christ. '
Colossians 1:28 NIV
He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.
And advertise maturity together with teaching.
When you get to the point where you are memorizing, practicing, applying it to your life, and teaching it to someone else, where they too become mature in Christ. That is discipleship
2 Timothy 2:2 NIV
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.
Deuteronomy 32:46–47 NIV
he said to them, “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you—they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
