Under The Law

This series I am coming into is a very tough one. Many want to hear it, but will not listen.
We Are Under the Law!
Wow, wow, wow....
What are you talking about Jacob? What do you mean we are under the law? That’s not what scripture says…
hahaha, let me tell you that it does!
Now let me clarify with what is written in the New Testament, because I do not want you to take what I am saying wrong....
Galatians 6:1-2 “Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught doing something wrong, you who are directed by the Ruach, restore such a person in a spirit of gentleness—looking closely at yourself so you are not tempted also. Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you fulfill the Torah of Messiah.”
I want to focus in onto the last phrase of that scripture and read what it says out loud...
“…, and in this way you fulfill the Torah of Messiah
We have an obligation to fulfill the Torah of Messiah! But What does that mean?
Before I continue, I have one more scripture to break to you before I start tearing into this...
This next verse, I will take away some prepositions so that you will see the noun to which the verb pertains to, then I will fill in the verse to understand what the Word of God is talking about....
“For the law… has set you free...”
Before you say… “Rabbi Jacob, this is blasphemous!” Let’s fill in the rest of this verse with the prepositions, because every Word is important....

2For the law of the Spirit of life in Messiah Yeshua has set you free from the law of sin and death.

HAHAHA, this is crazy!
I want you to know that there is a difference between the letter of the law and the law of Messiah, but there is no difference in the Holiness of such law, because the Letter of the law reveals sin that brings death and the Law of Messiah is the what Paul talk about being that which joins us together with the Lord as a husband is joined to their wife through an everlasting contract.
Paul says that the contract of the letter of the law cannot be broken without death. When death takes place, then we are able to be joined together with the husband. When you engage in marital relations… you give yourself away. You have died to yourself and you don’t belong to yourself. But Paul goes even further and says…
Romans 7:1-3 “Or do you not know, brothers and sisters (for I speak to those who know law), that the law is master over a person as long as he lives? For the married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives; but if the husband dies, she is released from the law concerning the husband. So then, if she is joined to another man while her husband is living, she will be called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is free from the law—so she is not an adulteress, though she is joined to another man.”
In Parsha Pinchas, Phineas son of Eleazar is recognized for turning God’s anger from the camp so that God did not put an end to the sons of Israel. What we need to recognize is that the Sons of Israel were in a contract with the Lord that bound them to serving God only. A part of serving God was not to allow others to seduce them into disobedience.
Can I ask you here, what was the law that God wanted the children of Israel to obey?
“I Am the Lord your God!”
The ones who profaned God’s Name caused a great plague to happen. 24,000 people were put to death and more were going to die, but someone acted in accordance to the Law of God!
Now it is even more important to see that it was not just about the law, but it is the preposition that carries the weight in this matter - “of God”.
Phineas was so much “of God”, “very zealous for Me”, that God did not punish Israel.
In fact, because Phineas was “Zealous for HaShem” and took on the burden for Bnei-Yisrael… God made a covenant of Shalom with Phineas and his descendants… forever!
Guys, can you see the Gospel in here or what?
I remember that I myself did something wrong, but I didn’t take much notice of it. All of a sudden, I was walking with my family, and we run into a Jewish friend. As we are talking, I proudly said… I am studying to be a rabbi and invited him to our congregation, and he replied… “Oh, where’s your tzitzit” and I laughed while my family said… “it’s under his clothes”, however, I was not wearing my tzitzit!
Ahhhh, the one day I was not wearing it, I got called out!
Some of you might be looking at me like… you see, you need to wear it, but it’s not over there.
That night I am thinking about the situation, and God brings up my sin...
He says, “Do you remember?”
What is my tzitzit for you? and I repeat back.... it’s the reminder given to me so that I would sin against You to look lustfully at what does not belong to You!
Numbers 15:39–41 TLV
It will be your own tzitzit—so whenever you look at them, you will remember all the mitzvot of Adonai and do them and not go spying out after your own hearts and your own eyes, prostituting yourselves. This way you will remember and obey all My mitzvot and you will be holy to your God. I am Adonai your God. I brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God. I am Adonai your God.”
It was at that moment where I realized that I was in the wrong and was at risk of something far more dangerous.... and this person who does not believe in Yeshua yet was used by God to point this out. Boy was I really feeling the shame, but I did not stay in that shame, I responded and knew that I needed to walk in the zeal of the Lord.
You see, many of you don’t realize how special you are to God and to me.
God loves you so much that He gave ONE & ONLY begotten SON! He exchanged Himself so that you wouldn’t have to die, but He wants you to know that HIS WORD IS GOING TO EAT YOU ALIVE!
This is because…
The Law points out our sins, and it tells us that we are in need “of God”!
When we recognize our need for God, and submit ourselves to God...
Messiah Yeshua Saves us by Condemning our sins to the Cross!
The problem we face now is recognizing that for as long as we are bound to sin… we ourselves are on that cross too, and the only way to get off that cross is to give yourself to the ONE who is next to you!
You need to be “OF GOD”
But until you are able to “Grow in the grace & knowledge of Messiah”, you are not “of God”.
You have to be able to answer who the Messiah is to you, and you have to be able to answer it in the way that lines up with the.... Law.
Shema Israel Adonai Eloheinu Adonai Echad!
Hear Oh Israel the Lord our God, the Lord is One!
“You shall have no other God’s before Me”
This is huge! Many do not notice the importance of this scripture. Not just are you so special to God, but you are special to me.
Once I was a slave to sin, but now I count it all joy that I am a bondservant of Messiah!
While my sin was on the cross, I didn’t stay there. I was joined together with Messiah through His death, and in so, I am raised to life as Messiah was/is raised to life.
No one else can do that!
Yet, we have people that are binding themselves to a Non-law and binding themselves to what Scripture says is lawlessness.
We see people focused on the writings of the church fathers that they are losing what it means to have the righteousness of the fathers!
Martin Luther put 10 thesis on the door of the church when it should’ve been the 10 commandments. We do not need a reformation, what we need is a re-information of God’s Word and a Re-evaluation on what and how we are following it!
Check out what the Scripture says....
When all of these things come upon you...
Deuteronomy 30:2-20
Deuteronomy 30:2–20 TLV
and you return to Adonai your God and listen to His voice according to all that I am commanding you today—you and your children—with all your heart and with all your soul, then Adonai your God will bring you back from captivity and have compassion on you, and He will return and gather you from all the peoples where Adonai your God has scattered you. Even if your outcasts are at the ends of the heavens, from there Adonai your God will gather you, and from there He will bring you. Adonai your God will bring you into the land that your fathers possessed, and you will possess it; and He will do you good and multiply you more than your fathers. Also Adonai your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants—to love Adonai your God with all your heart and with all your soul, in order that you may live. Adonai your God will put all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who persecuted you. Then you—you will return and listen to the voice of Adonai and do all His mitzvot that I am commanding you today. Adonai your God will make you prosper in all the work of your hand—in the fruit of your womb, and the offspring of your livestock, and the produce of your soil—for good. For Adonai will again rejoice over you for good, as He rejoiced over your fathers— when you listen to the voice of Adonai your God, to keep His mitzvot and His statutes that are written in this scroll of the Torah, when you turn to Adonai your God with all your heart and with all your soul. “For this mitzvah that I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it far off. It is not in the heavens, that you should say, ‘Who will go up for us to the heavens and get it for us, and have us hear it so we may do it?’ Nor is it across the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will cross over for us to the other side of the sea and get it for us, and have us hear it so we may do it?’ No, the word is very near to you—in your mouth and in your heart, to do it. “See, I have set before you today life and good, and death and evil. What I am commanding you today is to love Adonai your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His mitzvot, statutes and ordinances. Then you will live and multiply, and Adonai your God will bless you in the land you are going in to possess. But if your heart turns away and you do not listen, but are drawn away and bow down to other gods and worship them, I tell you today that you will certainly perish! You will not prolong your days on the land, where you are about to cross over the Jordan to go in to possess. “I call the heavens and the earth to witness about you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore choose life so that you and your descendants may live, by loving Adonai your God, listening to His voice, and clinging to Him. For He is your life and the length of your days, that you may dwell on the land that Adonai swore to your fathers—to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob—to give them.
All God is asking you throughout this passage is to Love Him!
Let me ask you… what is the greatest law?
Love God and Love your neighbor...
These sum up what?
The law of the prophets… can I ask you.... what are the law of the prophets?
Who are the prophets, and what were their laws?
Moses, Isaiah, Ezekial, Micah, Jeremiah… and so forth....
Okay, and what were they trying to tell the children of Israel?
SHEMA.... LISTEN… GOD IS GOD
3. “Do not use His Name in Vain”
Love God and obey His mitzvot… Do not test the Lord! Cling to Him, because He is your life and the length of your days!
Let me ask you here and now...
What does it mean to follow what is written in 2 Peter 3
2 Peter 3 TLV
Loved ones, this is now the second letter that I am writing to you. In both I am trying to stir you up by way of a reminder to wholesome thinking— to remember the words previously proclaimed by the holy prophets and the commandment of our Lord and Savior through your emissaries. First of all, understand that in the last days, scoffers will come scoffing, following after their own desires and saying, “Where is this promise of His coming? Ever since the fathers died, everything goes on just as it has from the beginning of creation.” For in holding to this idea, it escapes their notice that the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God. Through these, the world of that time was destroyed by being flooded with water. But by the same word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire—kept until the Day of Judgment and the destruction of ungodly people. But don’t forget this one thing, loved ones, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some consider slowness. Rather, He is being patient toward you—not wanting anyone to perish, but for all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that day the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the elements will melt and disintegrate, and the earth and everything done on it shall be exposed. Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what kind of people should you be? Live your lives in holiness and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God. In that day the heavens will be dissolved by fire, and the elements will melt in the intense heat. But in keeping with His promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. Therefore, loved ones, while you are looking for these things, make every effort to be found in shalom, spotless and blameless before Him. Bear in mind that the patience of our Lord means salvation—just as our dearly loved brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom given to him. He speaks about these matters in all of his letters. Some things in them are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist (as they also do with the rest of the Scriptures)—to their own destruction. Since you already know all this, loved ones, be on your guard so that you are not led astray by the error of the lawless and lose your sure footing. Instead, keep growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Yeshua the Messiah. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity! Amen.
And what I love is that we are led to 1 John 1:5-10
1 John 1:5–10 TLV
Now this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you—that God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with Him and keep walking in the darkness, we are lying and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of His Son Yeshua purifies us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
You see we are under the Law, and to say we are not is to make Him a liar!
But do not make any mistake… if you are in Messiah, you are not bound to the letter of the law which brings only sin and death, rather you are bound to the law of Messiah which brings forth the Ruach to transform you bringing you from death to life!
You see you are special to God and you are special to me. You are special to God in that He gave Himself for you just as He gave Himself to me, and you are special to me in that as I was restored, I pray for your restoration in Messiah Yeshua too!
You only have to commit yourself to Him.
1 John 2:15–17 TLV
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world—the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, and the boasting of life—is not from the Father but from the world. The world is passing away along with its desire, but the one who does the will of God abides forever.
1 John 2:22-23
1 John 2:22–23 TLV
Who is the liar, if not the one who denies that Yeshua is the Messiah? This one is the anti-messiah—the one who denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father; the one who acknowledges the Son also has the Father.
1 John 2:29 TLV
If you know that He is righteous, you also know that everyone who does what is right is born of Him.
1John 3:4-9
1 John 3:4–9 TLV
Everyone practicing sin also practices lawlessness—indeed, sin is lawlessness. You know that Yeshua appeared in order to take away sins, and in Him there is no sin. No one who abides in Him keeps on sinning; no one who sins has seen Him or known Him. Children, let no one mislead you! The one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as Yeshua is righteous. The one who practices sin is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. Ben-Elohim appeared for this purpose—to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God practices sin, because God’s seed remains in him. He cannot sin, because he is born of God.
