How Do You Think About How God Thinks About You?
Jeremiah 29:11; Matthew 6:25-27, 33
Considering young Layla, it is obvious that her mom, dad, big brother, grandparents, godparents, extended family, and village tribe are all bubbling with loving, caring, and goodly thoughts for wellbeing, nurture, growth, and success.
Who wouldn’t? Just look at her!
She is like a magnet drawing loving responses.
The best is yet to come.
The best is already here. The best is even now preparing her for the best that is yet to come.
The best is engaging us in this holy work of growing a family.
Think About. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that the Almighty God, Creator of Heaven and earth, the God of 100 billion concerns each second of every minute, and thinks about you, me, and this precious little one—Layla. Wow! Talk about “multi-tasking” …
But it gets better.
God’s thoughts are exceptionally biased.
Mom and Dad are biased towards giving the best for little Layla and big brother Andrew.
Do you think so?
Jeremiah 29:11; Matthew 6:25-27, 33 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” King James Version (KJV) “For I am conscious of my thoughts about you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you hope at the end.” Basic English Bible For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (NIV) Matthew 6:25-27, 33
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Thinking the Way God Thinks:
Belief—Do you believe that Goodness awaits you.
· Years ago I meet a young lady whom I later discovered struggled with some serious pathologies. This girl was beautiful—her physical appearance was a 10 plus and she had a personality to match. Everyone complimented her, but she did not believe them or the mirrors on the walls. She saw herself as Fat—a Flawed Being. Her behavior followed her belief and sense of being—she forced vomited her food after every meal.
· In Psalm 8:4, David asked this question:
· what are humans that you are mindful of (think about) them, [and] that you should care for them?
· David thought about how God was thinking about him, thinking about humans being, thinking about us.
· “I believe that I shall see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living” Psalm 27:13 (RSV)
· Do you believe that you can have Life with a capital “L”—a Life full of the Abundance that Yeshua promised.
Being—Sonship, the justification of grace.
· “God can draw a straight line with a crooked stick.”
· John 1:12 is one of my favorite scriptures about “Being”.
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God
To those who Believe, God gives the “exosia”—the authority, right, power—to Become the Children of God.
Exousia = Authority, Right, Power
We are given the Privilege of Being the Children of God—it is our Right.
We been given the power—the capacity to Be Children of God
Let me ask you something. If Andrew runs away from home is he still the son of Razelle and Gary? If he gets angry one day at Summer Camp and burns down the hall, is he still the son of Razelle and Gary? Will he still have the privilege of going home and enjoying the privileges of home?
At this point, mom and dad want to say, “Yeah, but there will be consequences. Don’t even think about it!”
You have the right and the power of Being
Behaving—We Believe Better than we Behave.
· We preach a Better Gospel than we live.
· Our goodness lags behind the Gospel.
· Growth Chases Gospel
· God can make a straight hit with a crooked stick.
Divine Favor drops like rain upon the leaves of the tall strong plants and falls to water the seedlings below.
God’s favor is upon the parental plants who cover the young seedlings.
The favor flows from one to the others.
Quincy Jones: “I wanted to be a gangster till I was eleven. You want to be what you see…And that’s what we ever saw.
I invite you to see and believe the Plans that God has thought concerning you…
I invite you to see and to be who you really are.
I invite you to behave accordingly. Behave like one living in the goodness of God.
Let me tell you about favor.
