Open

So Good for Worship. Say whatever comes in the moment, thank whoever welcomes me.

POV

I am thankful that when God shares something important, He usually shares it a number of times!

WIIFM

At the end of this, it is my goal that you would see that God knows our needs and meets them in profound ways.

Instruction

Today we are going to be talking about Covenants.
What is a covenant?
It is one of those church words that gets used a lot so it is easy for its meaning to get a little blurred.
The Lexham Bible Dictionary defines a Covenant as a Sacred Kinship Bond, usually ratified by swearing an oath and a ritual.
Think Marriage. A covenant is the most powerful, most binding, most self-giving family bond that can exist.

Story

Yahweh is a covenant making God, He made covenants with Adam, with Noah, with Abraham, with Moses, with David and finally through Jesus.
Why does this matter?
It matters because of the impact it has on the lives of those that are in covenant with Yahweh.
See Israel’s WHOLE identity was defined by their covenant with Yahweh. Israel means “wrestles with God”
Jesus’ main attribute is defined by His relationship with the Father as His Son
Likewise it is for us, “Christians” those who are called by the Name of the Lord. This covenant gives us our Identity as Sons and Daughters of God.
It is proof of who we are, it is proof of what our purpose is, it is proof that we are loved, it is proof that we are valuable beyond any other standard of measure.
We have all seen maybe even experienced the horrible fruit of a lack of Identity.
But God knows what we need, He steps in and says I have the solution. That solution is a covenant and it doesn’t matter what is costs me, I am making one with you!
Yahweh did this through Jesus Christ and it is very Good News.

POV

Covenants are mentioned over 320 times in the Bible. I am thankful that when it is important, God usually says it a number of times!

WIIFM

I hope now that you have come to see how God knows our needs and He meets them in the most profound and meaningful ways.

ACTION

As we take Communion, we ought to remind ourselves who we are in Jesus and that Yahweh has always proven faithful and will always be faithful.
