Hebrews 11:1-7
For a number of vital reasons, we are commanded to live by faith.
By having faith, we can please the Lord.
Faith enables us to recognize His incredible provision.
In the Armor of God, it is no accident that Faith is described as the Shield of Faith!
We have the chance to attest to His love through faith.
Through our lives, faith brings God praise and joy.
But faith also gives the person a significant and priceless advantage: protection!
This reminds me of a woman who opened the door of a building and was about to step outside when she heard a voice saying, “Don’t take that next step or you’ll regret it.”
She paused and a brick came crashing to the pavement right where she would have been standing.
She looked around and there was no one nearby.
The next day this woman was about to step into the street when she heard this same voice say, “Don’t take that next step or you’ll regret it.”
As she paused a truck came racing by and smashed into a nearby vehicle.
She knew if she hadn’t listened to that voice she would have been hurt badly, or maybe even killed.
She looked behind her and there was no one nearby.
“All right,” she said, “who are you?”
“I’m your guardian angel,” the voice replied.
“Oh, if that’s the case,” the woman said, “where were you on my wedding day?”
You see, as you and I hear, believe, and respond to the Word of God by faith we are protected from the evils of the world around us!
God supports this fact through Noah's testimony.
In Genesis 6, God examines the world and determines it to be so bad that He destroys it with a flood.
Noah was a man of God.
God saw Noah as a very upright person.
God instructed Noah to build an ark.
By doing so, he protected his whole family.
The entire family of Noah was preserved alive as a result of his faith!
Your family will be protected as well as your own life if you have faith in God.
Living by faith provides the bearer with two unprecedented forms of protection.
God’s Word Warns Us of
I. Unseen Dangers
The Bible is clear that there was no rain on earth before to the flood.
However, God went to Noah and warned him that it would rain.
Noah did not see the impending peril, but God knew.
And friend, God has forewarned us about the dangers in the world around us in the Bible.
But to take these warnings seriously requires faith.
What hidden dangers has God, through His Word, warned us about?
I believe there are four key Protections that God gives to us through His Word:
A. The Tempter
The devil is a powerful, alive, and real creature.
He makes a lot of effort to convince others that he is phony, or deceased, or a harmless guy.
This is a flat-out falsehood, and the Bible cautions us against it.
We are given the tools necessary to avoid and overcome the devil.
I worry that the devil has an open entrance in too many people's lives.
Not only will staying in God’s Word in Faith protect us from the tempter himself, but also from...
B. Temptation
We have to deal with our own lusts in order to deal with temptation.
Every one of us experiences temptation, and thankfully, God took great care to warn us about it in the Bible.
But what are you going to do with that warning?
God always provides a means for us to resist temptation.
Peter was forewarned of coming temptation by Jesus.
The disciples were heading outside to the Mount of Olives after the Last Supper.
Jesus sent a grave warning on that journey.
Peter said there is no way!
Jesus then sent Peter into the garden of Gethsemane to pray with the hope that the prayer time would steel Peter's heart in preparation of this coming temptation.
Don't assume that you will be ready to resist temptation.
It takes discipline to resist temptation; just having the resolve to resist it is not enough.
We know what happened as a result of Peter's lack of preparation for temptation:
Every day, Noah had to make this decision in order to resist the urge to sin, give in to pressure, give up, and abandon the mission God had given him.
Keep in mind that Noah lived during the worst times on earth.
Faith in God will protect us from the Tempter, from Temptation itself, but also from...
C. Consequences
Each action we take in life plants a seed.
The fields of our life are where that seed is planted.
We're constantly planting seeds.
Therefore, the issue is not whether we are sowing but rather what we are sowing.
What type of seeds do you plant during the course of the day?
Why is this important?
Because the kind of seed you plant determines the kind of fruit you will grow!
It's not karma.
It is the fact of the Word of God.
If I sow an orange seed, what am I going to get?
An orange tree.
Apple seed?
A grapefruit seed?
A pineapple seed?
Will I ever get a coconut tree?
No—because I have not sown those seeds!
My friends, you will never reap a righteous life:
In the clubs
At the bars
Speaking and hearing foul language
Bearing an angry and abusive attitude
Listening to worldly music, or watching filthy movies
If we sow obedience, we will reap protection.
You must sow to the Spirit to bear the fruit of the Spirit.
God’s Word warns us the unseen dangers that we can avoid through Faith, the Tempter, Temptation, Consequences, and then letter D...
D. Condemnation
The word condemnation means an adverse sentence (the verdict): to judge against, i.e. sentence:—condemn.
The world was being judged and sentenced because of their deeds.
God forewarned Noah, and according to the Bible, Noah forewarned the world.
The Bible warns us of the punishment for sin that every man and woman must endure.
It dates back all the way to Eden's Garden.
Adam's transgression caused sin to spread throughout humanity.
Fortunately God provided a way out of condemnation!
Accept Christ as your Saviour today and avoid the condemnation!
We saw first of all , that God’s Word protects us from unseen dangers, secondly
God’s Word Protects Us with
II.
Useful Direction
God's Word was directly communicated to Noah in his day.
