Addressed to Theophilus (loved by God/lover of God). Not much is known about this man but he could have been a Christian patron of Luke’s who was funding Luke in his work of writing this Gospel. Obviously Luke’s Gospel and it’s second volume Act’s was not written solely for Theophilous’ benefit. The Holy Spirit has inspired the authourship of these books for the benefit everyone who both loves God and is loved by God.
