Longing For Our Heavenly Home
We Now Have a Body Related to the Soul
We Will Have a Body Relating to the Spirit
We Now Have a Corrupting Body
We Will Have a Body that Cannot Corrupt
To Be Absent From the Body Is to be at Home Before the Lord
Those Who Sleep Are At Home Before the Lord in the Third Heaven
They Await the Rapture, Just as We Do, to Receive Their Full Redemption
Our Fondness of Honor, 2 Corinthians 5:9-10
Our Fondness of Honor, 2 Corinthians 5:9-10
Our Ambition, 2 Corinthians 5:9
2 Corinthians 5:9
Wherefore, also is our ambition, whether to be at home or away from home, to be well pleasing to Him
“Ambition” Comes from a Word that Means, “To be Fond of Honor”
Paul Concerning Preaching the Gospel Where Christ Had Not Been Named, Romans 15:20
Romans 15:20 (NASB95)
And thusly, I aspiring to bring good news not where Christ was named in order that I should not build upon another’s foundation,
For Us, to Make it Our Ambition to Lead a Quite Life, Attending Our Own Business, Working With Our Own Hands, 1 Thessalonians 4:9-12
1 Thessalonians 4:9–12 (NASB95)
Now as to the love of the brethren, you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another;
for indeed you do practice it toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia. But we urge you, brethren, to excel still more,
and to make it your ambition (φιλοτιμεῖσθαι) to lead a quiet (tranquil) life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded you,
so that you will behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need.
Whether At Home or Away From Home, to Be Pleasing to God
Presenting Our Bodies as a Living Sacrifice, Romans 12:1
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
Using Our Renewed Mind to Prove (test for approval) the Will of God, Romans 12:2
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Giving to Support the Ministry, Philippians 4:18
But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.
Children Obeying Parents, Colossians 3:20
Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord.
Servants Being Submissive to Their Masters, Titus 2:9
Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,
It is God Who Equips Us, Hebrews 13:20-21
Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord,
equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
We Will All Appear Before the Reward Seat of Christ, 2 Corinthians 5:10
2 Corinthians 5:10
For it is necessary all of us appear before the reward seat of the Christ, in order that we should receive, each one, the things through the body towards what was done, whether good, or bad.
This is a Place Where Reward is Distributed, Not Judgment
We are Rewarded for Our Labors in The Lord, 1 Corinthians 3:8
Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.
How We Build Upon the Foundation Laid, 1 Corinthians 3:10-11
According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it.
For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
What we Build - Gold, Silver, Hay, Straw, Will Be Evident in the Day, 1 Corinthians 3:12-13
Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,
each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work.
Our Works Will be Tested For What is Good, 1 Corinthians 3:14
If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.
We Are Not Judged, Our Works are Examined, 1 Corinthians 3:15
If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
This Should Put Fear in Us, Not Afraid of Being Judged, But a Fear to be Careful How We Build
As We Grow in the Lord, Sometimes We are Allowed To Tear Down the Things Built of Straw and Replace Them With Things that Last
Correcting a Sin - The vow of the Mental ill, James 5:15
James 5:15 (NASB95)
and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick (κάμνοντα), and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.
Scoping Out the Things of Others, Rather Than Only Ours, Philippians 2:4
Philippians 2:4
not scoping out our own things, but the things of each other
Other Times We Learn and Build Better Next Time
It is Never Too Late To Start Building Correctly
It is Necessary that We Appear Before the Reward Seat So We Are Blameless When Presented Before the Father, 1 Thessalonians 3:13
so that He may establish your hearts without blame in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints.
Persuading Other Concerning the Truth, 2 Corinthians 5:11-12
Persuading Other Concerning the Truth, 2 Corinthians 5:11-12
Knowing the Fear of the Lord, We Persuade Others, 2 Corinthians 5:11
2 Corinthians 5:11
Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade humans. And we are manifested to God, and we also hope to be manifested in your conscience.
Not a Fear of Judgment, 1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.
Understanding Our Works Will be Examined
Those Who Perish Are The Unpersuaded, Ephesians 2:2
Ephesians 2:2 (NASB95)
in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience (ἀπειθείας).
God’s Wrath Comes Upon the Unpersuaded, Colossians 3:4-6
Colossians 3:4–6 (NASB95)
When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience (ἀπειθείας),
Our Intentions are Fully Manifested to God, 1 Corinthians 4:4-5
For I am conscious of nothing against myself, yet I am not by this acquitted; but the one who examines me is the Lord.
Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men’s hearts; and then each man’s praise will come to him from God.
Also Being Manifested to the Conscience of Others - Seeing Our Intent is Good
Having An Occasion to Boast Against Those Who Boast Before Us, Not in Heart, 2 Corinthians 5:12
We are not again commending ourselves to you but are giving you an occasion to be proud of us, so that you will have an answer for those who take pride in appearance and not in heart.
Paul is Dealing with False Apostles Claiming He is False
They Are Ones Who Are Boastful Before The Corinthians
Our Boasting Should Be a Boasting in the Lord, 1 Corinthians 1:28-31
and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are,
so that no man may boast before God.
But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,
so that, just as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
Boasting Concerning Our Works Within Our Hearts to Ourselves, Galatians 6:3-5
For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
But each one must examine his own work, and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone, and not in regard to another.
For each one will bear his own load.
