Ryan Barnett Also Leah ?
Gregory
Big time leader 17 churches have voted to disaffiliate in central texas
All but one going global 80-90 churches will choose global by middle of August Roughly a third of central texas conf disaffiliating.
Roughly half of central texas churches will be out before 2023.
Texas has more than 200 churches underway in disaffiliation
Something around 60% will have left by end of 2023.
NWT - all but 10 or 12 will be in GMC by end of 2023.
North Texas and Rio Texas share similar challenges.
North Texas is openly hostile.
Immediate repurcussions for even discussing Convening conference of GMC will be fall of '23 or spring '24
Potentially three conferences
East Tx, Louisiana Central Tx, Ok Western TX, New Mexico Provisional (?) Elders oversee no more than 12 charges.
Band meeting idea Appointive contact also… Also discipleship structures Annual conference will look something like New Room!
Amen! Step #1 - decide you are leaving
By 2024 - traditional coalition that has maintained traditional doctrines are leaving Protocol is dead Know reality Ryan's council is that now is the time.
Going to get harder, not easier Step #2 - Band together - stay together.
Step #3 - Decide.
We are Leaving.
May not know how, how much cost, how work out.
Three ways to leave denomination in Texas
By disaffiliating - formal process established by conference
2/3 majority vote, etc Blue Ridge Model
Just leave and wait to see if conference sues you Blue Ridge Model but offering legal financial settlement to conference at amount of choosing Costs
Apportionments - 2 years of unpaid apportionments Pension Number
Market value of pension liability Not held in perpetuity, not designated, etc. Lobbied hard against westpath's formula on exiting
For every clergy that leaves…conference can choose 7k x years of service against liability Good case law from Texas Supreme Court
Trustees of SMU voted to schism from UMC. Governance and control of property.
County judge in Dallas county ruled in favor of SMU.
SCJ has appealed that ruling.
Appeal has been heard…waiting for ruling.
Should come out anytime.
Blue Ridge in Colin County tried to exit and stonewalled by NT Conference.
They held a church meeting and voted to leave UMC.
Hired an attorney to change articles of incorporation, which they did.
NT Conference sued Blue Ridge.
Mike McKee was a defendant in SMU case and plaintiff for Blue Ridge UMC. District judge awarded summary judgment to Blue Ridge on pretty much all counts.
Read own articles of incorporation and our own deeds.
If our articles of incorporation say we're just a church, etc, texas law will support.
Ryan is not an attorney!
Ryan has an attorney we could use… They were willing to pay the apportionment part…not the pension costs… Some churches not doing a big church vote…don't want to create a bloody mess in their church.
They hosted information meetings.
Let Leah know if first wave?

President pro-tem will be final decider…Leah Gregory is this…
Goal is pastor won't move unless they asked or church asked Some feel local church should have final veto, not the bishop… Kyle Knas, kknas@namanhowell.com,
