Intro
How many of you enjoyed Last Weeks Sermon on Turning points, and Wayne’s Baptism?
Today we continue on our Journey through Revelations
Two weeks ago we were on Chapter 19 and we see
The Lord comes on a white horse
He is called faithful and True - Is He?
He is called the word of God and has a name that no one knows- He is the leader of Gods army.
How the Lord - slaughters his enemies
The battle of Harmagedon - is swift and not much of a battle for Jesus
The beast and the false prophet are defeated and throne alive into the lake of fire.
False Prophet = Spiritual Corruption
Anti-Christ = Political corruption
It leaves quite a picture. - One we should remember always - AMEN
What Message did Ch 19 have in it for us today.
The battle belongs to the Lord
He wins
We win
We should be shouting Hallelujah. AMEN
Now lets continue on
Remember the challenge is you must have a thorough understanding of Daniel and Ezekiel - to make sense of Rev .
Revelation 20 ESV
Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain. And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while. Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years. And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and consumed them, and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
As a researched these scriptures, there are as many opinions as commentaries.
Some very smart people cannot figure it out.
It is broken into four main parts
Dragon bound
Thousand Year reign of Christ
Defeat of Satan and his new found army
Great white throne judgement.
The Defeat of Satan
First we see Satan is defeated - He is thrown into the bottomless pit - which is called the abyss of Revelations chapter 9
We have this in two parts -
Lets call them His Capture
His death sentence
Remember the souls under the altar cry out to God to judge - He hears there prayers and makes swift work of Satan.
He is bound with a chain and key word sealed in the abyss.- A lot of nasty things come out of the abyss - but not now.
Binding Satan means immobilizing His power - curbing his deception and shutting his mouth.
Very important we get this - “ His influence is removed completely.
From this point on the three great influencers are silenced.
No longer can we say, “ The devil made me do it.”
Thousand Year Reign of Christ
He is confined for 1000 years - this is what is called the Millennium.
This boils down to a question and that is are we looking forward to Christs return or are we looking back.
If we look back everything has to line up perfectly - If we look forward the what happened in the past is a shadow of what is to come.
Is a thousand years a real period of time or is it just the perfect amount of time
Those who do not believe in the millenium are called Amillennialists
No Millennium - it is all symbolic
There is no millennial reign of Christ.
Chapter 20 is nothing more than a recap of earlier events.
the first resurrection occurs when you give your life to Christ.
The church is reigning with Christ now.
Because Jesus defeated the enemy at the cross and Satan is completely bound and we are free to plunder his kingdom until Jesus Comes. You are living in total freedom.
Post Millennialism
Everything will get better from the cross today - the church will dominate and we will have kingdom on earth until Christ returns.
The cross took care of everything.
The church will dominate the earth - the world is getting better.
It is the chant of the Heaven on Earth crowd.
If things are not getting better it is because you don't understand your potential. You don’t get it.
Some believe . Antiochus Epiphanes desecrated the temple in AD 70 by slaughtering a pig on it. and He was the anti- Christ
Pre Millennialism it is a futurist view
Not happened yet. literal - future kingdom
Satan is still attacking Gods people and the church. Roaming around like a lion seeking to devour
Jesus will return to earth and from Jerusalem will lead for a thousand years and then it will be wrapped up.
And what about Israel?
Dispensations believe it has a lot to do with a restored Israel
Prophetically speaking, Israel will see the Messiah sit on a throne.
Joel 3 ESV
“For behold, in those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. And I will enter into judgment with them there, on behalf of my people and my heritage Israel, because they have scattered them among the nations and have divided up my land, and have cast lots for my people, and have traded a boy for a prostitute, and have sold a girl for wine and have drunk it. “What are you to me, O Tyre and Sidon, and all the regions of Philistia? Are you paying me back for something? If you are paying me back, I will return your payment on your own head swiftly and speedily. For you have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried my rich treasures into your temples. You have sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks in order to remove them far from their own border. Behold, I will stir them up from the place to which you have sold them, and I will return your payment on your own head. I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans, to a nation far away, for the Lord has spoken.” Proclaim this among the nations: Consecrate for war; stir up the mighty men. Let all the men of war draw near; let them come up. Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears; let the weak say, “I am a warrior.” Hasten and come, all you surrounding nations, and gather yourselves there. Bring down your warriors, O Lord. Let the nations stir themselves up and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; for there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations. Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Go in, tread, for the winepress is full. The vats overflow, for their evil is great. Multitudes, multitudes, in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining. The Lord roars from Zion, and utters his voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth quake. But the Lord is a refuge to his people, a stronghold to the people of Israel. “So you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who dwells in Zion, my holy mountain. And Jerusalem shall be holy, and strangers shall never again pass through it. “And in that day the mountains shall drip sweet wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the streambeds of Judah shall flow with water; and a fountain shall come forth from the house of the Lord and water the Valley of Shittim. “Egypt shall become a desolation and Edom a desolate wilderness, for the violence done to the people of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land. But Judah shall be inhabited forever, and Jerusalem to all generations. I will avenge their blood, blood I have not avenged, for the Lord dwells in Zion.”
This throwing into the pit was not done at the time of the cross or during his ascension
1 Peter 5:8 NASB95
Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
He is a defeated foe but He still has a roar. He has been defeated by the Lion of Judah. He is not the leader of the Pride.
But he is probably the leader of the Pride movement.
During this 1000 years Satan's influence is removed.
Like I said earlier
the False Prophet, The Anti-Christ, Satan are removed from influence.
Jesus will rule in righteousness and his people will rule with Him
Those who did not receive the mark will be resurrected to reign with Christ during this time - this would include the 144,000 and all those who survived.
Satan is Defeated
He is let out for a short period of time. WHY?
It show that even without His influence - man still wants to walk in rebellion against God.
Sin nature raises its ugly head and is judged
It is the final cleansing of the human heart.
Then a God battle occurs - It is alwasy very short - Not a good hollywood Movie
Remember the Chronicles of Narnia
Major battle scenes - all these creepy creatures come out in the thousands and fight the hobbits and the pointy eared guys and the the grumpy axe wielding short guys.
This is important
Here is the battle
Satan marches to surrounds Jerusalem vs 9a
He gets half a verse- then fire comes down from heaven and kills everybody in his army 9b.
No steal clashing - no roar of planes and helicopters or two major opposing forces battling it out o the last man on a plain.
No -
God deals with it and throws the devil ( the great deceiver into a lake of fire)
The Great White Throne Judgement
Those all apposed to Christ are judged.
All unbelievers -
Heaven and earth pass away -Like Wiersbe says they will have no place to hide.
The Judge is Jesus ( all judgement s are handed out by Jesus
Acts 17:31 NLT
For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.”
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Eleven: The King and His Kingdom (Revelation 19–20)

Jesus Christ will judge these unsaved people on the basis of what is written “in the books.” What books? For one thing, God’s Word will be there

John 12:48 NASB95
“He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.
The books will be opened
Hell opens its mouth.
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Eleven: The King and His Kingdom (Revelation 19–20)

God does not “send people to hell”; they send themselves by rejecting the Saviour

When you read the word THROWN in vs 14 - it is expulsion from the community of believers- a powerful movement away from God - and this is there end.
It is almost as if this is where their decisions lead them.
The Final Lesson
The millennial kingdom will “sum up” all that God has said about the heart of man. Man will still revolt against God. The Millennium will be a period of peace and perfect environment, a time when disobedience will be judged swiftly and with justice; and yet in the end the subjects of the King will follow Satan and rebel against the Lord.
A perfect environment cannot produce a perfect heart.
You cannot Blame it on the Devil anymore
We need the grace and mercy of Jesus all the time, no matter what.
Conclusion
God is faithful
The battles are no big deal to God
You need to serve God with all your heart
You cannot blame everything on the devil
Matthew 25:31–46 ESV
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
