13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. 17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. 19 My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, 20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.

Is anyone among you in trouble?
In church we have both those in trouble and going through a hard time and those that are rejoicing. When we are going through a tough time we are to pray. It is okay not to be okay. When we are going through a tough time there is something about being around God’s people that are singing and rejoicing.
Seeking God’s comfort through prayer.
What is singing? A form of prayer. What is prayer talking to God. When we sing a love song to our spouse what are we singing. Our love and adoration.
Truly - Girl, tell me only this
That I'll have your heart for always
And you want me by your side
Whispering the words "I'll always love you"
And forever I will be your lover And I know if you really care I will always be there.
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.
Is anyone among you -
Sick - Suffering / Afflicted -
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Thirteen: Let Us Pray (James 5:13–20)
The word afflicted means “suffering in difficult circumstances.” The phrase “in trouble” is a good translation. Paul used this word to describe the circumstances he was in as he suffered for the Gospel’s sake (2 Tim. 2:9). As God’s people go through life, they often must endure difficulties that are not the results of sin or the chastening of God.
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.
Let them call - Admitting we need others and reaching out. Us guys are the worst at this.
You need to know someone to call someone.
Who do we call in our suffering? Elders of the church. God fearing men.

14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.
To do what? Pray over them and their circumstance.
And to anoint with oil. Oil could be medicinal or a symbol of God’s power and Spirit.
15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.
Prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.
The “prayer of faith” is a prayer offered when you know the will of God. The elders would seek the mind of God in the matter, and then pray according to His will.
14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
My experience with healing ministries of others.
Prayed over my knee four times. They seemed dejected. God answered the prayer eventually through Drs.
15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.
If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.
Sometimes our suffering or affliction is from our own doing and sin in our life.
16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.
Elijah was a human being, even as we are.
We pray to the Same God Elijah prays to. But how did he pray?
He prayed earnestly.
19 My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, 20 let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
If one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back
We all can have the tendency to drift.
Someone should bring that person back.
Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way
1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
2 Timothy 2:9 (NIV)
