The prophets were considered God’s mouthpieces, consider Isaiah and Jeremiah. God called them to say some things in their day to the nation of Israel

we have a community obligation to hear and obey the word – This is why it must be in person and under authority of leaders. Sometimes when Reading our own word individually we can insulate ourselves from it b/c we can focus on what we want or need, not so easy with a sermon corporately – especially if the preacher starts meddling.
23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

We need the Word like we need food and water – but we don’t always act like it – why we are spiritually dying.
