The Cave of Adullam / The Road Ahead

1 Samuel 3. The Tearful Farewell of David and Jonathan (41–42)

ii. This bleak road was important in David’s life because if God would put David in a place where people must depend on him, God would teach David to depend upon God alone. Not himself, not Saul, not Jonathan, not anyone except God

God will always give you a sign when you head into the ‘dark place’
For David, the sign was of God’s first major victory in David’s life; THE SWORD OF HIS RIVAL.
BUT what we see in scripture is that he was on the run and when faced with the priest, he started lying.
He started relying on his own strength.
HE HAD BACKSLIDEN.
THE CAVE.
1 Samuel 1. David’s Distress at Adullam (1a)

We often think we have to get out of the cave until we can have the heart David had in Psalm 57. But we can have it now, no matter what our circumstances.

The darkness exposes one big thing; I NEED GUIDANCE. I CAN’T GET THROUGH BY MYSELF.
THE STORY DOESN’T END IN THE CAVE
