Again this evening we are going to go through two chapters of Deuteronomy, and see more laws, and commands of God.
2 Scriptures I talked about last week.
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
40 Therefore you shall keep his statutes and his commandments, which I command you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for all time.”

6. Remembering the Merciless Attack of the Amalekites 17-19
8 Then Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim. 9 So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose for us men, and go out and fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.” 10 So Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses’ hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 And Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the sword.
14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this as a memorial in a book and recite it in the ears of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.” 15 And Moses built an altar and called the name of it, The Lord Is My Banner, 16 saying, “A hand upon the throne of the Lord! The Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”
Additional word on this chapter.
God understands that families and societies are going to have issues, and knows that we need outside help to settle these issues, just like we have laws, and prisons today, though those are not perfect like God’s law. Gods law needs to do justice to those who are wronged and are in need, as well as make sure things are fair, like the measurements. If we know who God is he is fair when it comes to everything.
Dt 26.
Confession in the Offering of First fruits 1-11
Confession at the Completion of the Tithe 12-15
Divine Mandate to Be a Holy People 16-19
16-19 are some of my favorite words in Deuteronomy so far.
This day they are on the plains of Moab.
So what is important to understand is that the Lord is not just suggesting these things ought to be done, he is commanding that they be done.
He gives us good principles to live by. Be careful, ( make sure you are watching out to do what I have for you, but also that you are doing them with all your heart, and all our soul ) which means all of you are doing this. Not just part, or some, all of you. We are so often a just getting by people, but what God is commanding them is that they do what he asks them to do with all their might, take it seriously.
and they is response are declaring that very thing. The the Lord is there God. There is something to be said of what you believe about God, and Lord must be one of them, because if you believe in him he should be your master, you should want to follow him. And as the text says.. Walk in his ways. Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
keep his statues, these things we read last week, and this week sometimes are hard for us to understand, and so is other scriptures, but we are to follow his commands, and his rules, and obey his voice.
So in following him, he offers us a promise. It says a people for his treasures possession. We are God’s that should mean something to you. We receive his promises. God is a promise keeper, and you are to keep the promises he gives you, all of them not just some.
One man said, They have been empowered by the mercy of God to make the statement that they are a treasured people, set apart to God as holy.
How do we make ourselves set apart for God. We give.. Giving is a crucial aspect to spiritual health. Eph 4:28
28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.
13 then you shall say before the Lord your God, ‘I have removed the sacred portion out of my house, and moreover, I have given it to the Levite, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, according to all your commandment that you have commanded me. I have not transgressed any of your commandments, nor have I forgotten them.
WE obey..
We give thanks..
