Object lesson of the plant: You pity a temporary fleeting plant that gave you shade.... HOW MUCH MORE SHOULD IO PITY NINEVEH!

Similarities and Difference between Nineveh and the Plant

Similar:

Object lessons for Jonah
Created by God
Different:
Jonah pitied the plant vs detested Nineveh
Jonah did not create the plant but God created Nineveh
Nineveh - great city - plant , small insignifcant life
Emphasis on God’s care for people who he has created.
This care isn’t based on their performance and goodness!
This Care isn’t conditional but based on the fact that God created them in His own image and pities them! God pities them because of their lack of knowledge (don’t know there right hand from their left)
Matthew 9:36-38 (ESV)
Matthew 9:36–38 ESV
36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
God’s Heart toward us:
Compassion, pity, steadfast love and mercy! WHY
because he made us! He loves us not because were so lovable, not because we are such good Christians but because we are his creation!
