In Prusuit of Godliness

1 Timothy 4:8–10 KJV 1900

8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. 9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. 10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

Illustrations:

Living a pure life takes total commitment. Therefore, we must be very careful about what we hold on to or it will also hold on to us.Just out of reach from my window stretches a wire which carries a heavy current of electricity for light and power. It is carefully insulated at every pole that supports it, and it is carried well out of ordinary reach.… Yet the birds land on it and aren’t harmed.… The secret is that when they touch the fully-powered wire they touch nothing else. They give themselves wholly to it. My danger would be that while I’m touching the wire I should also be touching the ground, and the current would turn my body into a channel for escape. But they [the birds] rest wholly on the wire and experience nothing, no danger. They are one with the wire, and they are safe. So would God have us seek our safety in Him touching nothing else-surrender to His power and love. It is when we reach one hand to Him, while yet we keep fast hold on some forbidden thing with the other, that we are in danger. Are you holding on to something that is forbidden? It’s time to let it go and let God take over!

In Pursuit of Godliness

Synopsis of Godliness: Reverence or devotion to God, producing a practical awareness of God in every aspect of life.

In pursuing Godliness there are promises concerning life in this world and in the life to come.

In Pursuing Godliness.

Is a family affair.

It is the responsibility of men as well as the women.

Luke 2:25 (KJV 1900)

And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout...

Godliness isn’t inclusive to men also to women. In fact, young, old married or single as well

Luke 2:37 (KJV 1900)

And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

It doesn’t stop there it is also inclusive to the entire Christian household.

A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;

Jesus gives us our insight to the definition of Godliness.

John 8:29 KJV 1900

29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

Godliness is what is pleasing to Jesus and the Father.
