Opener (in pairs)
What leadership characteristics do you think would get you promoted to head boy/girl or when you have a job - get you promoted above everyone else?
Jesus is From the Top v6a
Jesus is From the Top v6a
Thise things you thought of in your pairs - Jesus could have or be, or choose any-of those leadership characteristics to be known by.
He is God!
He is at the Top of absolutely everything!
But he chose a very unusual quality instead.
Jesus Chose the Bottom v6b-8
Jesus Chose the Bottom v6b-8
He chose, v8 - humility.
In pairs - what is humility?
The bible seems o understand humility - not just as not showing off -
but as giving up what you might be enttitled to for other people
In other words making sacrifices for other people.
so, v6b - he didn’t use his position to his own advantage,
v7 - became nothing by comparison - became a scummy human being like us - when previously he lived in glory i heaven
imagine the queen coming to live in your bedroom! x1000
not only that, but he chose more than just to be a respected loved human - he chose to become a human who would die - even on a cross!
why a cross.... worst of Roman torutres and a curse to the Jews!? (check this fact)
Jesus is Put Back on Top! v9-11
Jesus is Put Back on Top! v9-11
This is an important point.
God the Father rewards sacrificial humility v9-11
It is the single greatest and probably most over looked charcteristic of Jesus.
But his humilyt both saved humanity - becasue Jesus chose to die for us.
But his humility also earned him the title of Lord!
In pairs - what does Lord mean?
The clue is in the passage - Lord is not just someone important.
Lord is someone who has to be obeyed - there is no avoiding it!
Every knee will bow - either voluntaritly in greatful thanks for all he has done for us,
or by force when he judges those who refuse to repent.
every tongue will confess he is Lord.
Either in great joy becasue we have humbled ourselevs below him and enoy him forever,
or in great fear for we will one day see we were wrong - and he IS Lord.
He’s the Top!
Lord of All.
Us - Choose the Bottom and Receive the Top! v5
Us - Choose the Bottom and Receive the Top! v5
Ironically - we are not God but we think we are!
We don’t need to humble oursleevs from our right position - Like Jesus did - from God to man.
We need to humble ourselevs from our perceievd positon of being great and realise who we are!
Slaves to sin!
But in return we recieve etraly life - with Jesus our Lord.
People wont bow to us - but we will enjoy bowing to Jesus
etc etc
