Matthew 6:19–23
Are we storing up treasures on earth or in Heaven?
It is important to recognize that there is a difference between treasures on earth and treasures in Heaven. Treasures on earth is destroyed by moth, and decay. But treasure in Heaven cannot be destroyed, nor thieves break in and steal.
Heavenly treasure is living with God, and earthly treasure is living without God. If we set our minds and souls to Earthly treasures, our soul's direction is not Godhimself. However, if we set our hearts on treasures in Heaven, our soul's destination is God.
We live, and we die, but we were meant to live for more than just a next day or this earthly life. We were meant to live forever with God.
Christ died so that we could have a life with him beyond earthly treasures.
We were made to share God's heavenly treasure. But that cannot happen unless we start to store up for ourselves treasures in Heaven from now here on earth, because whatever we store up for ourselves most now on earth, in this life, we will have that treasure in eternity.
It is crucial to remember that whatever we love the most in this life, we will spend eternity with in the next. Again, whatever we love the most in this life, we will spend eternity with in the next.
So, if we do not love God above all things, then we will not spend an eternity with him, and we all know where the eternity without God is. But the good news is that no matter what mistakes or sins we have made in the past, Jesus has died for all of us. His mercy, love, and forgiveness go beyond our mistakes and sins.
Jesus Christ is our heavenly treasure from now on earth. If we store up for ourselves this most blessed treasure, Jesus will be the one who will bring us to eternity with him, where we will always share heavenly treasures with the Trinity.
Our goal must be heavenly treasure, not earthly treasure. Like Blessed Carlo Acutis said, "Our aim has to be the infinite and not the finite. The Infinite is our homeland. We have always been expected in Heaven."
So, the choice to spend time in eternity with God or without God is ours. If we spend time storing up heavenly treasures, we will live with God in heaven, and on the contrary, if we spend time storing up for ourselves earthly treasures, we will spend time in eternity without God, and there is no middle path in this.
Like St. John Vianney states, "We must never lose sight of the fact that we are either saints or outcasts, that we must live for Heaven or Hell; there is no middle path in this. You either belong wholly to the world or wholly to God."
So, let us not store up earthly treasures. But let us choose to store up treasure in Heaven which is Jesus himself. Let us store up Jesus Christ by setting our sights on our heavenly destination.
Let us live wholly for God by changing our lives and turning to Godwith our whole hearts today, throughout the day, and every single day of our lives until our last day. When we hope to rise to new life with Christ. May God bless us all.
