1 Kings 19:9 ESV
9 There he came to a cave and lodged in it. And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
What are you Doing Here Elijah?
Reminiscent of Genesis 3-Why were you hiding?
Elijah just had a major victory. He took on the Jezebel’s Priests. Elijah stood up for what was right. He stood up for the word of God. He stood when other people who should have stood were sitting.
Jezebel- Man she was a demonic Spirit if I ever saw one. Declared and set out to kill Elijah. Elijah was scared. He was hiding. He allowed Doom to set in. Elijah was so desperte for relief he was willing to give up his calling and his life. The God asks one simple question:
What are you doing here?
This question is loaded.
Where You Are? Why You Are there?, What Brought Him there?
Who are you?
Elijah answers very factually based.
I Did what you told me to do-
1 Kings 19:10 (ESV)
10 He said, “I have been very jealous for the Lord, the God of hosts.
Elijah started claiming facts,
2. Israel Rejected God
1 Kings 19:10 (ESV)
10 For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant,
3. Israel destroyed the system of Worship
1 Kings 19:10 (ESV)
thrown down your altars,
4. Israel Killed all the prophets
1 Kings 19:10 (ESV)
and killed your prophets with the sword
5. Elijah stood Alone.
1 Kings 19:10 (ESV)
and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.”
It was factual but it wasn’t honest. You see Elijah’s true answer to What are you doing here should have been
Nothing.
Elijah came to give up.
God Brought you to the cave to Realign you.
Do you think God doesn’t know. He doesn’t know the injustices, the pain, and the trauma you been through. He doesn’t know that you feel alone, scared, and ready to quit?
God brought you to the cave to realign and to strategize your life.
God brought you to place where he could talk to you and you need to hear what the Spirit of God is saying.
You may feel like the pressure of this world has over taken you, but God brings you to a point of isolation. Isolation can be painful, it can be uncomfortable, it can feel lonely, but God needs to quiet the noise in your head. He brings you to a place of seperation and Isolation so that He can commune with you.
Understand God was not in the noisy moments of Elijah’s life. He waited for the still quiet moment. He waited for the commanding moment.
Twice Elijah speaks reality to God. And Twice God asks Elijah
What are You Doing Here?
Then God does something amazing. In 1 Kings 19:19 God Brings out Elisha to be with, serve, and encourage, Elijah.
Some of you need to understand: God brought you to a place of loniness because the people you thought were your friends and ally’s aren’t. God is putting people in your life who will lift you up and encourage your calling not tare you down and destroy your calling.
God had to remove point less people to make room for pointed people.
The first thing God does for Elijah out of the cave is give him help. You weren’t meant to do this journey alone, but you also weren’t meant to do with pat people. God has aligned new people, given you new circles, and New direction. So that you can advance in the newness of your calling.
God’s got a secret about your purpose, but he also has a team aligned and ready for your new destination.
You’re so busy talking about what has happened that you aren’t seeing what is happening and God brought you to the cave to realign your vision and strengthen your support groups.
When God met with Elijah God didn’t discuss the past-He gave Elijah orders for the present.
What has happened has happened, but God is getting ready for what will be.
God desires to give you fresh anointing while you keep playing in the swamp in the past. God knows what has happened. But all to often we sabotage our future because we live in the past. We are so busy talking about what has happened that we miss what is happening.
Understand what happened. Elijah went into the caves alone. Despreate. Scared. Hungry. But God said I’m going to show you that delaing with Devils, famine, and obsticals are behind you. I’m going to bring you help and elevate you among kings. I want you to go get the Elisha and I want you to annoint Hazeal and Jehu has king. I have a new purpose. An elivated Purpose. Don’t worry about Jezebel and her profits. She can’t catch you. She can’t get to the level I’m going to take you. She can’t fly as high as your going to be. But I’m going to start with a whisper. I’m going to change your direction. I’m going to correct your course and then you’ll realize the training ground is over, the war has begun and the victory is at hand.
Satan wants you to roll over and die, but God desires to call and anoint. I believe this morning that God is recomissioning his saints. God is redirecting his troops. He is aligning those he has called to equip them for the service he has called them for.
But it starts with getting alone with God. It starts with listening. It starts with allowing God to work in your life.
