Background
Mark was written for Gentiles that most likely lived in and near Rome
He uses the Roman time system
Does not reference the O.T. a lot in his gospel and goes out of his way to explain Jewish customs
Marks main theme in his Gospel is to bring to light to the deeds that Jesus did more so than his teaching
He shows him as an example of the power of God
Background of the passage
Was at Peters house
Tell about the house
the teachers being in it sitting
crowded
Healing faith (vv1-5a)
- these four friends would stop at nothing to bring there friend to Jesus
- healing faith should be what each of us has not for ourselves but for the unsaved world.
- what does it look like?
It has four things
A.) love
- these four guys loved there friend.
- when you love someone you will do anything for them
(husband and wife)
- we need to show the unsaved world the love of Christ
B.) Persistent
- they would not let anything stop them from getting there friend to Jesus
- tell about the roof and the house
- flat roof
- used for relaxation in the cool of the day
- slept up there on hot nights
- external stair case
- Roof
- big beams that went from wall to wall
- small logs laid across that
- mud and palm branches that covered that and grass that grew from out of the mud and dirt
- they knew that Jesus was the only one that could heel there friend
C.) Creative
- we should use any means that we can to get people into the saving grace of Jesus Christ short of compromising the Gospel
- this can make us uncomfortable some times
- tell about changes at Church I
- we have to come out of our comfort zones sometimes in order to reach people
- we have to have faith and bust down some walls
D.) Sacrificial
- a faith that brings Christ to the world must be willing to pay the price
- the roof will need to be replaced, buildings will need to be built lines will have to be drawn in the sand.

The Power Claimed by the Divine Physician (v5b)
It was common for people to bring their loved ones to Jesus for Physical healing.
The whole nation of Israel had become so perverted and unspiritual that it was the rarest thing possible for any of them to realize that the true mission of Jesus was not to restore the body, but the soul, to save His people from their sins.
This is the first time in the Gospel that Jesus relives His true mission, to save not the physical body, but the spiritual body.
The Blindness of Unbelief (vv 6-12)
- the real parlytics there that day were the teachers of the law
- they looked into the eyes of God but didn't see him
- are we the ones that are looking but not seeing or are we the ones that are willing to do what ever it takes to carry our friends to Jesus
