Going back to chapter 4’s terminology, what are we to “lay aside”?

What do we do instead?

Why is this important?

And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.”

Romans 5:11 “And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.”

“It is a greater work of God to bring men to grace, than being in the state of grace, to bring them to glory; because sin is far more distant from grace than grace is from glory.” -John Trapp

Glory: greatness, weight, honor

Why does Paul correlate sleep with sin? Darkness with sin?

What light do we have that is relevant in today’s society?

Circumspectly: how, by what means, in what manner

Redeeming in the Greek: make good use of, work urgently

How is your life prioritized?

Is it in the right order?

Is your time filled with what is good/wise/will of the Lord/filled with the Spirit/giving thanks/submitting to each other, or is it unwise/evil/reckless?

Why is it so easy for us to fill our lives with what is destructive?

James 4:7 “Therefore submit to God.

Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

Paul used the word submit 23 times in his writings.

Jesus gave us expamples of submitting to God (1 Cor.

15:28), and submitting to our parents (Luke 2:51)

Submission is against everything true in our culture today.

We are selfish.

Romans 12:10 “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another;”

Gal.

5:13 “For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”

Philippians 2:3 “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.”

1 John 4:11 “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

This submission with each other amongst believers is to be mutual.

Ephesians 5:22–33 (NKJV)

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.

Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.

So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.

For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.

For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.

“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Have you ever seen a relationship blossom without love and/or respect?

You can’t have one without the other.

True love and true respect go hand in hand.
