1 John 5:4-5 (KJV 1900)
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
Oftentimes situations, problems, drama, pain, illness, disappointment, depression, persecution, trails, temptations, and oppressions come against us that believe in Christ trying to make us lose our faith.
19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: But the Lord delivereth him out of them all.
16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: But the wicked shall fall into mischief.
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
The purpose of the message is show strategic and intentional ways a believer in Christ can overcome when the odds are stacked against, when they feel like giving up, when get depressed.
Today we are going to an example in the old testament. The says in Romans 15:4
4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
1 It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.
Jehoshaphat was the fourth King of Judah. name means Yahweh is judge
The children of Moab and Ammon were Lot children, who was a nephew of the Israelite patriarch Abraham. Moabites was Israel relative.
They worship the of Milcom or Milkom (Ammonite: 𐤌𐤋𐤊𐤌 *Mīlkām; Hebrew: מִלְכֹּם Mīlkōm or מַלְכָּם Mălkām) was the name of either the national god, or a popular god, of the Ammonites. He is attested in the Hebrew Bible and in archaeological finds from the former territory of Ammon. His connections to other deities with similar names attested in the Bible and archaeologically are debated, as well as his relationship to the Canaanite supreme deity El, or the putative deity Moloch.
2 Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazon-tamar, which is En-gedi.
Great multitude of problems came against Jehoshaphat - ( The odds was against him)
With all the crisis that are going on today believers must hold on to faith, be stedfast; the gun violence, the pandemic still lurking after three years, the economic conditions, the mental crisis all coming once.
3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
The initial reactions to multitude of problems to fear, become paralyzed and not run and hide. However , Jehoshaphat
Proclaimed a fast- fasting is a time set aside to seek
6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? To loose the bands of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, And to let the oppressed go free, And that ye break every yoke?
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
While praying he admitted he needed help, relied on God’s name ( Hallow by thou name)
9 If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.
12 O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.
He received God’s direction, correction, and instruction; did not try to it his own way, (Rhema word)
15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.
20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
He worshiped the Lord ( used spiritual warfare)
21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever. 22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
They enemies were confused and kill themselves and Jehoshaphat was able to win , over and take the goods from the enemy
23 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another. 24 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped. 25 And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.
God is able
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
It three day to take the enemy goods
Likewise it three days 1 Cor 15:4
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
