Psalm 119:65–71 CSB
65 Lord, you have treated your servant well, just as you promised. 66 Teach me good judgment and discernment, for I rely on your commands. 67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word. 68 You are good, and you do what is good; teach me your statutes. 69 The arrogant have smeared me with lies, but I obey your precepts with all my heart. 70 Their hearts are hard and insensitive, but I delight in your instruction. 71 It was good for me to be afflicted so that I could learn your statutes.
Introduction: God is good all the time and all the time God is good. What is good?
The Text: The psalmist has come to the conclusion that God is good but he does not come to the conclusion some arbitrary thoughts. Instead, his understanding of God’s goodness come through experience......affliction as a matter of fact.
Affliction and be either an interpreter or a revealer of God’s character. (it should reveal what we already know and help us to know more deeply).
God is consistent (promise keeping)

God is good
God does good
God does not just do good things but He is good (moral excellence). In His character, He is the very definition of good. For us “good” is an added quality but for God this is who He is and if He is not good He cannot be God.
The things that we call good are still imperfect but God who is has eternal existed has always been good.
God creates from His goodness and defines what is good......
Genesis 1:1 CSB
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:3–4 CSB
3 Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness.
Genesis 1:6–10 CSB
6 Then God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters, separating water from water.” 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above the expanse. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse “sky.” Evening came and then morning: the second day. 9 Then God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry land “earth,” and the gathering of the water he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:11–12 CSB
11 Then God said, “Let the earth produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.” And it was so. 12 The earth produced vegetation: seed-bearing plants according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:16–18 CSB
16 God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule over the day and the lesser light to rule over the night—as well as the stars. 17 God placed them in the expanse of the sky to provide light on the earth, 18 to rule the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:20–21 CSB
20 Then God said, “Let the water swarm with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.” 21 So God created the large sea-creatures and every living creature that moves and swarms in the water, according to their kinds. He also created every winged creature according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:24–25 CSB
24 Then God said, “Let the earth produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that crawl, and the wildlife of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. 25 So God made the wildlife of the earth according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that crawl on the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
He defines what is not good
Genesis 2:18 CSB
18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper corresponding to him.”

HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND
Trust and Rest in His goodness
Psalm 23:1–6 KJV 1900
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
