There has been a severe famine in recent times. This famine is not a water drought like we have been familiar with from time to time. But, this famine is different. Some might say this kind of famine will cause people to lose their minds. This famine will cause families who usually come together regularly to seemingly lose touch until the drought passes. The seriousness of this famine, the famine that I’m talking about, can bring the strongest of people to their knees in desperation for a reprieve from on God high. This famine is different. This famine is the time between June 16th and Thursday September 8th where we have to find a way to survive between the NBA finals and the start of the NFL regular season. There is a famine in the land I tell you!
A famine (define, gives examples. Food, gas, God’s word.)
Amos 8:11-13, prophesied that God would send a famine of the Word of God and that such a time would arise where people would not heed the voice of the Lord to seek after justice but would rather satisfy their own bellies. We live in a age such as this. (Preach) Elijah lived in a time similar to that (Context) (Introduce Elijah)

1. God answers his Prayer

He prayed. It was not the LORD’s command or word. It was Elijah’s. He said it and the Lord answered his prayer. The drought and subsequent famine that came endures for the bulk of our time in this series is caused by Elijah and God answering the prayer request for elongated dry season.
Spend time with God. God can fix it.
Speaks Truth to power. Ahab was crazy. His prayer is directly associated to the foreign gods his people were now worshiping. Have you prayed for revival?

2. God Provides

God is never too busy. He provides for his children. He promised he would provide. He promised he would meet our needs. He promised he would supply all of our needs. But, there is a condition, v. “So he went and did according to the word of the lord.” We wan’t the blessings of providence without the obedience.

3. God Remembers Elijah’s Purpose

The tension in the text is that the brook runs dry. And it will run dry. (Run with examples) (Preach as long as you can)
God said there would be a famine of His Word. But God hears our prayer, he provides for us, and he remembers he has a plan for us. Because while we were yet still sinners Christ died for the ungodly.
The world was dying, humanity was suffering a severe famine of the Sprit of God. God said didn’t send another prophet, he sent more than a prophet. He, the Word of God, became flesh.
