Psalm 139:13–16 NKJV
13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.
Today’s objective: To understand how our own bodies give us inescapable, powerful ammunition to always praise God no matter what.
For me, what we’re going to talk about today, is the 2nd most powerful reason to praise God.
The reason: It’s undeniable.
When it comes to how we were made, there are only two options: either by a powerful designing intelligence, or natural processes.
The world has launched an absolute all-out assault on the idea that it is even *possible* that you were created by God.
“Biology is the study of complicated things that give the appearance of having been designed for a purpose.” {Richard Dawkins, The Blind Watchmaker, 1996, p. 1}
The core principle of evolution by natural selection: things “evolve” gradually, one small change at a time. Each step *must* provide a selection advantage or the evolution dies out of the population.
ANYTHING about biology that can’t be built by tiny successive changes, CANNOT be explained by natural processes.
If there are lots of changes happening simultaneously, there HAD to be an intelligence. This is because lots of changes require planning and end goals.
What natural process has a plan? What natural process has an end goal?
We see plans and end goals EVERYWHERE in biology! That means your body is PROOF you couldn’t have arisen by any natural laws AND the designer who designed you, works by planning and end goals! Your body is proof God always has a plan!
By studying our biology, we have a glimpse into God’s mind!
Quick example: The circulatory system.
The blood’s job is to provide nutrients and oxygen to every cell in your body. To do this, the blood HAS to circulate. The blood carries oxygen & amino acids.
First Step: Planning and End Goals!
God always always always has a plan! There’s always an end goal and your own body is PROOF!
The development of our bodies always follows the same path!
the moment you are fertilized, the position, size, and shape of every organ in your body is already determined.
The shape of every bone. The routing of every nerve and blood vessel.
Next step: dividing functions.
God divides work. He gives different parts different functions!
We see this in the church! It’s no accident that Paul uses the illustration of calling the church a body!
1 Corinthians 12:12–22 NKJV
12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For in fact the body is not one member but many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? 18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 19 And if they were all one member, where would the body be? 20 But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. 21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary.
THIS IS HOW GOD WORKS!
You have a role at church! The church is the body!
NEVER NEVER NEVER say your role is small!
When it comes to God’s plan for YOUR life, always remember, it’s PART of a bigger plan!
When it comes to how God answers prayer, there are many parts to the answer!
When it comes to God’s plan for YOUR life, there are many parts required to make it happen! You may not understand each part along the way, but do you understand your liver?
Next Step: Resiliency!
Your body heals itself!
It not only detects when there’s a problem, it builds what it needs to fix it!
When God builds something it is resilient!
When He detects a lack of resiliency in you, He gets it out! He wants perseverance! Character! Dependability!
Next Step: Sustaining!
Cells can build cells. So when a cell builds a cell, it has to build everything the cells needs to also build a cell.
There is no analogy to this. The closest we have come is software, but there is as yet no software that writes software THAT writes software.
Think of it! Not a car that can build cars. A car that can build cars THAT can build cars!
I’ve offered this challenge to lots of people: Use as much science fiction as you want and come up with a way to accomplish this without an intelligent designer involved.
So what would be required to do that?
Cells are made of proteins. Proteins are complex shapes that fit together to create machines.
Instructions
A language for the instructions
Materials
A machine to read the instructions and assemble the structure
A way to label each material to match to the instructions, using the language
A way to transport the material into the machine
a generator to create and supply the power
Instructions
dna/mrna
A language for the instructions
the dna language (codons)
Materials
amino acids & oxygen
A machine that can read the language and assemble the structure
ribosome (made of proteins)
A way to label each material with the language
aminoacyl-tRNA syntase (tRNA ligase) (made of proteins)
A way to transport the material into the machine
cytoplasm & tRNA (made of proteins)
a generator to create and supply power
mitochondria with it’s many ATP Synthases (made of proteins)
An aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase (aaRS or ARS), also called tRNA-ligase, is an enzyme that attaches the appropriate amino acid onto its corresponding tRNA.
