Last week, we talked about:
Jesus is troubled, because of whats going to happen.
we talked, that it was not because of the pain that he was going to face
it was not because of the public humiliation
I believe that Jesus was troubled because of the wrath of God, that He was going to face.
Jesus prays that the Father is glorified.
We also learned:
that Jesus gives a last plea, for the Jaws to come to Him and believe.
telling them to believe while they the Light is available to them.
and we talked about the fact that the Jews did not believe because they could not believe.
40 “He has blinded their eyes and He hardened their heart, so that they would not see with their eyes and perceive with their heart, and be converted and I heal them.”
41 These things Isaiah said because he saw His glory, and he spoke of Him.
42 Nevertheless many even of the rulers believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue;
43 for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God.
44 And Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me.
45 “He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me.
46 “I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.
47 “If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 “He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.
49 “For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak.
50 “I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.”

40 “He has blinded their eyes and He hardened their heart, so that they would not see with their eyes and perceive with their heart, and be converted and I heal them.”
41 These things Isaiah said because he saw His glory, and he spoke of Him.
42 Nevertheless many even of the rulers believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue;
40-41.
40-41.
Even Isaiah spoke of the hardening of the heart of the Jews. Isaiah saw the Glory of God and knows the truth of Him, while to Jewes choose not to.
The did not believe so they could not believe.

many people believed. even the Jewish rulers.
Confessing ( ὡμολόγουν) (homo-lo-gee-o) to commit oneself… to agree with and a speak the same language. Its a public acknowledgement
This word confess is the same as:
In Romans 10:9
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
also
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
so we must confess, (agree, and speak the same language) Jesus as Lord, the same as we need to confess (agree with and speak the same language) that we are sinners.
These Jews believed, they saw the miracles, and could and did not confess Him as Lord.
Why??
Why??
because of there fear that they would be put out of the synagogue.
the political and religious status was more important then Jesus.
church politics, leadership , these things get in the way of our relationship with Christ.
Why???

V.43
43 for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God.
loved: (ἀγαπάω) (a-gop-o)
this same love is used in John 3:16
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
They loved the approval of man rather then God.
approval (δόξα) (docx-a) brightness, splendor- radiance, glory
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
in other words the people loved the glory and splendor of man over God.
so with the same heart. the same intensity that God loves the world. These people loved the glory of men over God.
v. 44-45
v. 44-45
44 And Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me.
45 “He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me.
Christ is to believe in the Father;
to see Christ is to see the Father (v. 45);
to hear Christ is to hear the Father (v. 50).
But rejection of Christ and His words is also a rejection of the Father
v. 46
v. 46
46 “I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.
Jesus says that those who are in Him are not in darkness.
understanding that we are in darkness
5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
If if we are in Christ. We are in His light which is no darkness at all.
But as we are in Christ, we will no longer remain in darkness.
Because you can’t
v.47-48
v.47-48
47 “If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 “He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.
Jesus is God
Jesus says that He does not judge. (talking about at that point.)
Jesus is here to save the world.
rejection of his (Jesus’) message is rejection of God, and so will bring the judgment of God
v. 49-50
49 “For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak.
50 “I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.”
Once again Jesus is not talking apart from the Father and Holy Spirit
in the gospel is life, it eternal life
