Deeper: extending far down from the top or surface.
There is a river that flows out of the presents of God.
A river starts as a small stream but it becomes a mighty river.
When we first start our journey with Christ we start in the shallows.
It’s not His plan for us to remain in the shallows.
Sometimes we get satisfied splashing in the shallows of salvation
But God’s plan is to move us out of shallow living into the deep of His presents.
For this to happen we have to be willing to let go of our shallow living and understand that God has a deeper life that He is calling us to live.
No matter where you are in your journey there is a deeper life that God wants us to move into.
Always Deeper
God desire us to go deeper with Him!
As we grow in our relationship with Christ we leave shallow living behind us.
Let’s take a look at what Paul had to say about shallow living.
Leaving the shallows
Philippians 3:8–11 (NLT)
8 Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ 9 and become one with him.
I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ.
For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.
10 I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead.
I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, 11 so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!
When we come to a place that all we want is to go deeper in our relationship with Christ, that’s when we start to leave the shallows.
Paul made a decision to move out of the shallows
To move out of the shallows we have to be willing to forget those things that are in the past and look forward to the things that are ahead.
Remember what Paul said, “Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ…
God is inviting us to come out into the deep.
He won’t force us to come out into the deep we have to be willing to move out of the shallows and discover what He has in store for us.
It was the same as when Jesus told Simon to go out into the deep and let down your nets in Luke 5:4.
Simon had to make a choice to stay or to go deeper.
It’s same for us today.
We have to choose will we stay in the shallows or will we go deeper?
It’s time to leave the shallows and move into the deep!
First Steps
Remember the Children of Israel, when they came to the Red sea.
When the waters rolled back they had to make the first step.
God open up the sea but they had to make the move to move to into the promise land.
Thought out the Word of God, we see where God invites His people to go deeper.
But they always had to make the first step.
No matter what depth you are moving into, you have to take a first step to get there
To move out of the shallows we have to take the first.
So what is the first step?
The first step is letting go and Trusting God!
Of our past hurts
Of our past accomplishments
Of our past failures
Stay Open To Move
God may want to use your resources
You may be tired and feel like doing anything
Be Willing Push Past Your Traditions
God may ask you to do something that breaks your traditions.
We have to careful that we don’t hold on to our tradition and make the Word of God void.
Be open to try something different
Moving Deeper Produces Fruit
As they moved into the deep God provided for them
As they moved into the deep it brought about change
When We Move Into The Deep We Discover Our True Purpose
You will discover your purpose when let go and move out of the shallows into the deep.
God has more in the deeper, we can’t see if we are not willing go deeper
Are You Willing To leave It All
