How to Shift from a Victim Mentality to a King's Identity
James 4:1- “What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.”
Isaiah 43:1 NLT
1But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you.
O Israel, the one who formed you says,
“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine.
Gen 1:26 “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
THE TWO WOLVES
There is a Native American legend in which an old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life using a metaphor about two wolves: “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil—he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good—he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you—and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”[1]
When a person knows their identity they will know their destiny
God wants to build the real you. He's not interested in building a false you because you are not designed that way.
This is all about rebuilding the real you because your identity is a gift to the world
God needs you to know your identity. For example we can identify God (his identity) by His characteristics and by His different names (Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Rapha, Elohim, etc). This is His identity.
Your identity is unique to you and is deep within you. You don't get your identity from the people or a group that you may associate with. For example realtor, sorority, employee, engineer
When you know your identity you become fully alive in Christ Jesus because your identity is unique to you
The way of my being matches the truth of my being Paul Young
What am I afraid of?
What is my true identity?
And, how can I bring my true self to cities around the world?
1. What is identity?
A. Identity is your perception of yourself based upon pre-existing image already establish deep within inside of you; the value of your life and being. Your perception of your identity is not always the truth, and the truth about your identity is not always your perception.
What is life like if you don't know your true identity?
B. God appoints the time and place to determine our birth identity ? Acts 17:26 “And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place,”
The Bible reveals to us that we also have a spiritual identity. This is the identity that the Lord infused into our spirit to bring you into the fullness of your true Christ self and to propel you into the kingdom identity.
C. Your identity doesn't come from what you have, what you do or what people think of you. It can only be received from God in your imagination and then nurtured to maturity in community
Each identity that father God tells you is unique to you because when he was forming you in the belly he was making unique based on your identity which is a beautiful process because your unique identity fits your unique personality of who he made you to be from his kingdom perspective.
We can either give voice to the false identities, or we can give voice to the unique identity that the father calls us when he made us in his image
The voice of true/ voice of false :
you can either give voice to true identity you have to choose you can have the voice of the false identity and the voice of true identity at the same time.
It's all a choice that you get to make daily.
You can either by into the voice of fear or by into the voice of true identity because they both speak
Look with wonder at the depth of the Father’s marvelous love that he has lavished on us! He has called us and made us his very own beloved children. The reason the world doesn’t recognize who we are is that they didn’t recognize him. 1 John 3:1 TPT
D. The imposter identity = the schemes of the enemy
Deception
False interpretations
The true self is original and Beyond time. The true self is unoffendable .
2. What keeps me from moving in my true divine identity?
Fear is the common source that keeps a person from moving in their true divine identity.
When we feel negative emotions we usually have two responses
a. Ignore - STUFF IT
Time is not the greatest healer Jesus is
B. apologize to God for it
Remorse is not repentance
Both are the schemes of the enemy, Ephesians 6:11, to rob you of your divine identity and keep you stuck in that childlike, emotional pain
Your present situation is not the source of your pain. It is an indicator of a belief that has Origins in a childhood traumatic event where you interpret a situation and form a belief system around that interpretation. Experience results and reaction and form a belief. Belief is the foundation for personal identity perception.
C. Fear produces separateness
Let me pause right here and talk about separateness real quick
When we separate from God or anything that God asks us to do it is because of the pain that's within us. That pain makes us shutdown. We start going into addiction pornography, drugs, drinking, all sorts of addiction because it's pain that's associated with our separation
Fear takes away your creativity and makes you stop fighting.
-When we believe that God wants us to do something and we can't do it we turn away from God. That is separation.
-When we retreat we go back into the mode where fear leads.
-Many people get stuck in that fear loop and you can't get out.
-You must ask, “God what do you say?”
We need to say to the Lord, “Search me to know me and show me where that fear is that brings you
What am I believing that is producing fear in me that is not true?
Fear completely draws you away from your destiny and that is always been the plan of the enemy.
365 times in the Bible it say fear not
1. cashing in your false identity for the true identity -Process
Jesus is inviting us into confession Jesus is inviting us into repentance and Jesus is inviting us into transformation
A. Confess = truth telling
1john 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
My confession to God right now and here's what I believe to be true.
○ Confession, “ I never finish anything.”
○ God is speaking to you because of your confession. always say to you:
What does that say about you?
We must always tell the truth.
Example: “I am afraid, I don't like how I look.”
“God I don't think you're helping me.”
“What are the things that I believe about myself that are not true?”
B. A life of repentance= metanoia
Mark 1:15 “and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.””
Repentance is asking God to speak back to you, what is actually true.
Repentance is God telling you the truth. “So God what is the truth about this matter?
Repentance makes you turn around and go back into the true way and align with your identity
When God is asking you to do something he's asking you to do it within your true identity. He does not want you to operate in a false self or trying to be like anyone else that he never created you to be
