A Life Uplifted
A Life Uplifted
In John 14 Jesus said to his disciples...
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And you know the way to the place where I am going.”
18 “I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. 19 In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live.
25 “I have said these things to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. I can confidently say today that Pilar knew that peace. That peace came in a season when she needed it the most. That peace was evident in her life and in the lives of those around her.
In John 14 Jesus is telling his disciples about his death. He is preparing them for what was to come but he was letting them know that even though he would soon be leaving their sight and leaving this world he wasn’t leaving them alone.
Throughout this time, throughout her life PIlar was never alone. We know about the friends and the family. We know about her outgoing personality that would light up every room and every heart she came in contact with, but their is more to it than that.
In John 14:26-27 Jesus says
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Jesus told his disciples then just as we hear it now that we aren’t alone. God has sent the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, the Comforter, the One that goes before, to be with us. It was the Holy Spirit who never left Pilar from the time she was born until the morning she left us.
As I met with NIki and Stephen this week to discuss this morning and really to talk about PIlar I found my self becoming emotional as we spoke. I found myself getting to know PIlar through the things they told me. You heard some of them in the video but there are so many places in Pilar’s life where I saw God at work. Her love of people, ALL PEOPLE not just some. Her love of creation and all creatures from the greatest to the smallest. Stephen told me that no creature is allowed to be killed in their house, not spiders, not wasps, all creatures have value.
Pilar is one that exhibited the fruits of the Spirit love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness. These were the qualities that she not only exhibited but the ones that she passed on. They are things that we will remember and treasure and seek to do more of.
2022 has been incredibly difficult, let’s be honest it wasn’t the year we were hoping for but it was a year that we got. It would have been easy for Pilar to simply give up at any point throughout this journey, but it never happened. She never lost her hope, her love, her joy , or her peace, and that she bring us all comfort today.
We know that this is not an end but a new beginning. Stephen asked me to share a verse today out of 1 John Ch. 5, it reads...
11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
Today I can confidently say that Pilar has life because she has the Son and that is her testimony. I would be remiss if I didn’t offer you that same hope, love, and life today. Take time to remember Pilar, remember her and share the memories and the stories the joy and the love of a life well lived. Find hope and peace in the Holy Spirit that is here with us today and was always with her. Lean into that Spirit to find fresh hope in Jesus Christ and the resurrection that will bring us all together again.
