Encounter With Unclean Spirits

When He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way

The rocks and cliffs around Gardara was fill with tombs cut out of limestone about 20 sq ft They were dwelling for the poor and insane, and hiding place for criminals. It was consider a unsafe place to walk down.

And suddenly they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?”

Notice that the demons knew who Jesus was and there fate ( before the time ) is referring to judgement day. “Rev 14:9-10 “Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.”

Now a good way off from them there was a herd of many swine feeding

according to my research it was maybe about 2000 pigs. knowing that pigs are unclean to the Jewish culture we can say that the land was Gentile territory.

according to the book of Mark and Luke during this dialogue Jesus had asked the demon what was its name. The demon responded with Legion meaning that the were many unclean spirit has possesses this man up to 6000.

So the demons begged Him, saying, “If You cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of swine.”

These demons that everyone feared where reduced to begging Jesus to let them live . Jesus gave them permission to enter into the pigs. This also showed Jesus authority over these demons

And He said to them, “Go.” So when they had come out, they went into the herd of swine. And suddenly the whole herd of swine ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and perished in the water.

What came to my mind is that these pigs felt something wasn’t right.

Then those who kept them fled; and they went away into the city and told everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men

And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they begged Him to depart from their region.

these herd of pigs must have been a great value and lost to this community of people. Lets say each pig was equivalent to 35 dollar each out of 2000 thats a total of 70,000. thats a-lot of money in todays time.

The people of this community valued their possessions above these men spiritual state, so they asked Jesus to leave. To Jesus the lives of the two men were more valuable than these pigs. The gentiles did not rejoice that two men had been set free of their oppression. They only saw that Jesus was responsible for a negative impact on their livelihood so sadly financial loss took priority over spiritual gain.

As humans we measure success off things that we can see this is how we view the world now it's two things that we'll get us fired up if we scare or you play with our money.

he see things that we can not see. an has the authority over all of it

Ephesians 6:12 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

we can not see these thing so we need to have faith in Jesus .

As believers we should understand that we already have the victory but we don't live as such.Knowing who Jesus is not enough. The demons knew who Jesus was and they knew the day of judgment was coming but they refuse to live in the light of it. We need to be careful not to do that because ignoring God leads to a downward Spiral.

Romans 1:32 “who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”

The reality of unclean spirits and storms in our lives is evident daily on earth. but we don’t need to be afraid because faith in God can drive out all demons power from any body. We can trust that he has control over any storm in our life. Those who will take God's way of life through Christ. We need to have faith in this.Faith is putting one's trust in Jesus even in the most difficult of situations whether spiritual physical emotional or mental.
