Joshua 14:6–15 6 Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the Lord said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadesh-barnea. 7 Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh-barnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart. 8 Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the Lord my God. 9 And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children’s for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the Lord my God. 10 And now, behold, the Lord hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the Lord spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old. 11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in. 12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the Lord spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the Lord will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the Lord said. 13 And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance. 14 Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel. 15 And the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-arba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.
INTRO: Joshua was eighty-five years old when he spake these words, but one thing is for sure, there was a mountain in front of him and he wanted it. He wanted to conquer it. He wanted it for his inheritance. There was nothing stopping him, he was going to have his mountain. If we are going to have our mountains in life, we need to know how we can conquer them. Here is a recipe straight from the Bible that tells us how we can have them and what it takes for us to have them.

I. A Wilderness

Joshua 14:10 10 And now, behold, the Lord hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the Lord spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.

A. To get rid of some things (God got rid of the unbelief of Israel)

Numbers 14:1-37 Here we find that God told the children of Israel that all the people who did not believe God would die in the wilderness.

1. Sins

2. Weights

3. Burdens

B. To learn some things

During these years in the wilderness the people who entered the land saw God give water from the rock, provide food, and clothes for them

1. To pray

2. To trust

3. To obey

II. Claim the Promise

Joshua 14:6 6 Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the Lord said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadesh-barnea.
Caleb had not forgotten the promise of God after forty-five years and claimed it and believed it.

A. Help

B. Guidance

Proverbs 3:5–6 5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he shall direct thy paths.III. Stand Against the Tide
Joshua 14:7–8 7 Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh-barnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart. 8 Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the Lord my God.
It is not always going to be easy to do what is right, Caleb was standing against eleven other men and still he would not back down

IV. Wholly Follow God

Joshua 14:8–9 8 Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the Lord my God. 9 And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children’s for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the Lord my God.
A mountain is not for someone who partial follows God, but for someone who will follow Him all or nothing.
Luke 9:57–62 57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. 59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. 61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. 62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.V. Determination
Joshua 14:11 11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.

VI. Desire

Joshua 14:12a 12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the Lord spake in that day;
V. 12c if so be the LORD will be with me

VIII. A Fight

Joshua 14:12 12 B for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: D then I shall be able to drive them out, as the Lord said.

CLOSING: The Rest of the Story Joshua 15:13–14 13 And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron. 14 And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.
