I Corinthians 6:9-20 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. 13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. 14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power. 15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. 16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. 17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. 18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
I. The Purchase (The Sinner) I Corinthians 6:19-20 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
A. Who Is A Sinner Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
B. Why Are We Sinners Psalm 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
David here is not saying that he was born as a result of a sinful relationship his mother had but he is acknowledging that he was a sinner from birth. When we are born we inherit the sin nature of our parents who inherited it from their parents and so on and so forth until you reach the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve which is why the Bible tells us that in Adam all die in I Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
II.The Purchaser (God) I Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
God did not just make an impulse buy when He purchased mankind back from sin but He made a very thoughtful very intentional purchase. He did not just go looking for something to purchase but instead went looking for a very specific item that He highly valued.
Matthew 13:45-46 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Here is a man seeking specifically for pearls and not just any pearls but for goodly pearls and he finds the ultimate pearl and desires it more than any pearl he has ever seen.
If you go back and read the previous verses you will find that Jesus is speaking here of the Children of the Kingdom of Heaven or the Children of God and therefore we conclude that the Seeker and the Purchaser must be God.
III. The Price That Was Paid V. 20a For ye are bought with a price
Matthew 13:45-46 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Hebrews 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
When the price for our redemption was paid it was not a second rate payment or an afterthought on the part of God but it was a preordained plan that gave the very best Heaven had to offer for the very worst this world had to offer. Heaven gave all so that our redemption could be obtained.
IV. The Purpose Of The Purchase V.20b therefore glorify God in your body
The purpose of God purchasing us is very plain and very simple: that we might bring glory to Him. How do we do that?
A. The life we live
B. The words that we say
C. The things that we do
Simply…WE ACT LIKE A CHRISTIAN (A FOLLOWER OF CHRIST)
And why should we do this? Once again it’s a simple answer…WE ARE BOUGHT WITH A PRICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
