“When you know God has been Good”

John 12:1–3 ESV
1 Six days before the Passover, Jesus therefore came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at table. 3 Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
If I was to ask
Everyone in here today
If God has been Good to you
Everyone would say yes
But I personally
Would have a problem
With everyone ‘ YES ‘ answer
Because if God has been good to you
Then why have you not
Made Him the guest of honor
In your Heart & In your House [ Mary-Martha-Lazarus ]
Because Jesus
Has been good to
Mary , Martha & Lazarus
They made Him the guest of honor
It’s when you know
God has been good
You become GRATEFUL
And when you’re GRATEFUL
You have to express
You Gratitude to the Lord [ ACTIONS ]
Note: Not with you Lips but with your Life
And people today
In our culture
Definitely don’t express
There Gratitude
Note: Is there certain people that works your nerves
[ Certain people that works you me ]
Note: Of coarse these people will grow us but some people are hard to get alone with.
mean people / wake up angry / angry with everyone/everything
Cheap people / they never pay for nothing
Late people who are late for everything
People that don’t have no sense of urgency about NOTHING / walk slow / Talk slow / Drive slow
Takers / people who just on the receiving end all the time
People that think you GOT to do for them
Lying people / lie about everything --- as if they get paid to lie
UNGRATEFUL PEOPLE
And there’s some people God can’t stand or should I say have a problem with
There’s 3 groups of People when you read scripture that God can’t stand or have a problem with
1st: God can’t stand the uncommitted
If you have commitment issue
You can’t make a commitment
God can’t stand persons
Who are uncommitted
Revelation 3:15–16 NIV
15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
Ricky didn’t have no problem being commited to what God gave him
1st: God can’t stand the uncommitted
2nd: God can’t stand the unconcerned
Those people who are just cold
Those people who don’t show benevolence
God can’t stand the unconcerned
Matthew 25:41-46 (The separation of sheep & goats)
Matthew 25:41–46 NIV
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ 44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ 45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ 46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
Ricky didn’t mind GIVING & HELPING when it came down to the Kingdom
1st: God can’t stand the Uncommitted
2nd: God can’t stand the Unconcerned
3rd: God can’t stand the Ungrateful
God can’t stand folks
That don’t know how to turn around
And say thank you
Example: ( Luke 17:11-17 )Even Jesus asked the one leper that came back to say thank you, were there 10 lepers that was cleanse but where is the other 9.
Psalm 116:12
12 What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me?
Explain: John 12
In John 12
Jesus is on his way
back to Jerusalem
He stopped in a little city
2 miles outside
the city called Bethany
Jesus like going to Bethany
because he has some
personal friends there
Mary - Martha - Lazarus
We know Jesus
goes to Bethany
because we see three instances
One is in Luke 10.
Jesus goes to Bethany
and it’s there
that Martha puts together
a dinner
And Martha gets upset
when she looks over
and see her sister Mary
is by Jesus doing nothing
And Martha
tells Jesus
do you care
that Mary have left me
to do all this work by myself
Jesus turned to her
and say Martha,Martha
you are worried
about too many things
The Second is in John 11
when Jesus is in Jerusalem
And Mary and Martha
sends for Jesus
to tell Jesus
about his friend Lazarus is sick
And about the time
Jesus gets back
to Bethany
where Mary & Martha sends for him
Lazarus is Dead
And Jesus
is meant by two sisters
that both had the same statement
“ If you would have been here our brother wouldn't have died “.
The first trip is in Luke 10
The second trip is in John 11.
The third trip is here in John 12
Jesus comes back to Bethany
and goes back
to the house of Mary and Martha
And this time
Jesus is not met
by Mary and Martha
with disappointment
But this time
He's met
with joy and excitement
Now the question is
how the same sisters
Mary & Martha
meet Jesus
one chapter ago with disappointment
But now meets Him
with Joy & excitement
The answers lies in
what happen
in between the two chapters
Note: Can I tell you it’s ok to live life in the in betweens
Jesus rises Lazarus from the dead
Now after Jesus
has raise Lazarus
from the dead
they give a dinner
And there is nothing
but thanksgiving
And gratefulness
in the house of Mary & Martha
Note: when you know God has been good to you, there should be some evidence of gratefulness.
And this time
when Jesus shows up
they realize
that we have to do
more than just shout
we have to do
more than just wave our hands
we have to do
more than just say Thank You
The Lord deserves more than just a Sunday Praise
John 12
When you Know God has been good to you
1st: Martha—Worked for Jesus ( V. 2 )
John 12:2 ESV
2 So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at table.
when she begin to think of what Jesus has done for them
her response was to serve the Lord with her gift
Martha is gifted in hospitality
In Luke 10, we see that Martha is an event planner
She knows how to put a dinner together.
Note: What the body of Christ need most is some Martha’s
Note: This demonstrates a grateful life
Question: How are you serving the Lord?
Footnote: One of the ways Bro. Ricky served was thru singing
Note: Now some of you are saying I’m serving But are you serving effectively?
Note: She sees a need
Note: Whatever you do well in the world, you should do better in the Kingdom
Note: Martha serve the Lord with her talent
When you Know God has been good to you
1st: Martha—Worked for Jesus ( V. 2 )
2nd: Mary — Worship Jesus ( V. 3 )
John 12:3 ESV
3 Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
Note: Mary sacrifices her treasure
Mary gets her most expensive oil
breaks it open
And pours it on Jesus feet
And begins to wipe his feet
With her hair
Note: what Mary gives is a yearly wage (annual salary) this is a picture of Authentic Worship
Authentic Worship:
John 4:24 KJV 1900
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Define : Truth — not hiding NOTHING
Note: And when you want to give your best, there’s always a voice in your head or someones mouth that say you shouldn’t do that. ( V. 4-6 )
Note: Be careful of the Judas voice.
Note: Mary worship the Lord with her treasure
When you Know God has been good to you
1st: Martha—Worked for Jesus ( V. 2 )
2nd: Mary — Worship Jesus ( V. 3 )
3rd: Lazarus — Walked with Jesus ( V. 2 )
John 12:2 ESV
2 So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at table.
Note: Lazarus had to walk & surrender his time with Jesus cause the only reason why he’s alive is because of Jesus.
Note: Lazarus surrender his time to the Lord.
