VII. Read Jeremiah 23:16-17 and comment. Jeremiah 23:16-17 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, filling you with vain hopes. They speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord. They say continually to those who despise the word of the Lord, ‘It shall be well with you’; and to everyone who stubbornly follows his own heart, they say, ‘No disaster shall come upon you.’ ””
VIII. Vain hopes today.
IX. The word of the Lord and Hebrews 4:12. Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
X. God has mercy on us in Jesus.
XI. Read Colossians 1:14, 2 Corinthians 5:19, Romans 5:10-11. Colossians 1:14 “in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” 2 Corinthians 5:19 “that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.” Romans 5:10-11 “For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.”
XII. Truth about Jesus and John 8:31-32. John 8:31-32 “So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.””
XIII. Power of God’s truth in Jeremiah 20:9 and 23:29. Jeremiah 20:9 “If I say, “I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name,” there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.” Jeremiah 23:29 “Is not my word like fire, declares the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?”
XIV. God’s powerful word is true.
