Narrow Gate
Introduction:
to this point most of Jesus teaching has been to the disciples.
Now Jesus is teaching to the disciples plus two other groups: the crowds and the religious leaders.
So, now there is the primary group the disciples.
the humble followers of Jesus.
Then there is the religious leaders who care more about there postilion and popularity then the do their calling.
we have the same today: some of you are here for whatever you are here for.
we have the disciples- the people that are here for Jesus.
the religious leaders- these are people who want to argue about things that are not ment to be argued about.
(doctrine).
1. Express lane or Narrow Gate?
We have to determine whats more important to be cool, or to be a disciple of Christ.
whether to be popular or pious.
The Lord Jesus starts these two verses with the answer.
He says enter by the narrow gate.
Wide is the gate and broad is the path that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
you can destroy your life both physically and spiritually in many ways but there is a much smaller path that leads to life.
2. The way to life … is not easy.
the flesh desires to be fed.
one of the things that is clear to me is how often the flesh wants to be fed.
here i am talking about the physical body.
what about the mind.
how often does the mind want to be fed?
what does the mind want to be fed? it is flesh as well!
what about the will?
how often does the will if the flesh want to be fed?
how often does it want to rule over the body and the spirit?
emotions?
how often do I allow my emotions to rule over my life?
in the life of the disciple we don’t allow these things to rule us, we submit to the rule of the word.
3. Coming to Christ! (entering by the narrow gate).
Repentance is the heart turning toward The Lord and the feet turning toward The Lord.
