Not Peace, but division

49 “I came to cast fire on the earth, and would that it were already kindled!

Fire here represents the power of God. Jesus comes to spread the Word of the Father. Now is the time for people to confess Jesus as their Lord. It is Jesus’ desire that you might be consumed with the fire and that this world might burst into the flames that burn eternally. Yet His coming brings division. We now see this division between brothers and sisters of the faith. Is this a bad thing? Jesus said, “ I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how great is my distress until it is accomplished!”
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Lk 12:50. Jesus is saying that He has a job to do, bring people to understand and accept Him. He knows that this will cause division and He suffers because of our division, but His work must go onward.

51 Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth?

No, I tell you, but rather division.

I invite you to look around and see if you can find unity. Although I tell you that like minded people gather together. Why? Because we want to feel we are correct in our thinking. Division feels uncomfortable at best. Think of it this way. God is love and yet He sent His son to save us. In order to save us we must believe. Not all will believe. Some will fall into the hands of false teachers. 52 For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Lk 12:52–53. Study the Word of God and know God. Much of the church we knew is now being lead by a world desperate to be accepted as they are. If you know the Bible you should say that we must all change for what we are is not what we will one day be.

51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:

“Death is swallowed up in victory.”

55  “O death, where is your victory?

O death, where is your sting?”

Does this scripture look or sound familiar? It should as we read it nearly every time we do a funeral. The great sin of this day is to believe that we, any of us, is okay. We all come with baggage hoping to be changed in an instant.
Interpreting the Time

54 He also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A shower is coming.’ And so it happens. 55 And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat,’ and it happens. 56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
