Batman, Superman, Captain America, you get the point.
What do all of these superheros have in common?
They all hide behind a fake persona.
A hero.
But their human alter egos fail to thrive often in the same manner that their hero forms do.
So I want to ask you the direct question, whatever answer you give is OK but lets be honest with each other.
When you show up to church, do you feel like you have to be someone you are not?
Do you feel your church involvement could develop into a false identity? In other words, the person you are at church or at youth is not the person that you always are away from here?
Do you feel adequate pressure to be perfect when asked to follow some sort of church responsibility?
These are viable questions because they each tell us a piece of the puzzle when it comes to identity.
Who do you think that Jesus uses for his glory and work?
God used an ordinary shepherd to father the nations (Gen 12:1–3).
He used a deceiver and doubter to form his covenant people (Gen 35:10–12).
He used a teenage girl to be the mother of the Savior of the world (Luke 1:26–38).
He confronted and converted a zealous Jew and appointed him as an apostle to the nations (Gal 2:11–16).
All of these situations and more Jesus used once stereotyped or even immoral people for his glory.
By the world they were defined.
By Christ they were not.
Let’s talk about identity for a moment shall we.
What creates you identity?
In reality your identity isn’t defined by you.
It is defined by Christ.
Your identity is not your biggest screw up.
your identity is not your worst day.
You are not defined by the worlds standards.
If you screw up while public speaking, that part of it. we all mess up sometimes.
That doesn’t peg you as not having the ability to speak in public.
That simply proves you are growing.
If you have one bad game or one bad test what does that mean?
Does that define who you are?
Jesus's’ use of you is dependent on your faithfulness to him and nothing else. repeat, repeat with me
