Philippians 4:4-9

Circle of Trust

Everybody think about a time when you are around people that allow you to just be yourself… whether that is your family, a group of friends or coworkers, hopefully we have a group of people that we genuinely care for, love and trust and we are able to just simply relax and enjoy spending time together with one another.
I am very grateful that my family is this for me. It is a lot of fun just spending time together - this is a little slice of heaven isn’t it? There’s no formal agenda, the conversation flows, there’s no time limit - we reminisce, we laugh, we cry, we share and connect our hearts with one another! This is genuine human relationship that allows us to continue to get to know eachother, appreciate and ultimately love one another.
Or consider your relationship with your spouse. This is why taking time to still go on dates is so important, because that heart level connection is essential! When we share our hearts, we open up and talk about our feelings, our hopes and dreams and hurts, fears and failures, our intimacy grows, our love grows. I am the sort of guy that likes to sit down and solve problems - let’s break it all down and figure out a game plan to become better as individuals, partners, parents, disciples etc… On our last date Laura very gently asked if we could just enjoy eachother rather than hammering on our weaknesses the whole time… She was so right! A big part of developing intimacy in relationship is just simply enjoying being together.
The biggest thing that struck me from our passage this morning is Paul’s call to the Philippian church to rejoice and find incredible peace in God through prayer. We all want to experience that peace and joy that comes with genuine friendship all the time, right? I believe Paul is echoing Jesus’ teaching in that we have access to that as Christians! The key for Christians to unlock internal peace, calm, stillness that passes all understanding is to pray.
