Total Commitment To God
Psalm 37:3–5 KJV (WS)
Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Total Commitment To God
INTRODUCTION:
The committed life of which I am speaking is a life entrusted to another’s care—a commitment of one’s life to Almighty God. This is a definite transaction. Note some things about a life which is totally committed to the Lord.
I. THE COMMITTED LIFE IS ONE OF TRUST
“Trust in the Lord”—God loves to be trusted; for He is worthy to be trusted. The psalmist cried, “I will trust the Lord at all times.” Trust is faith in action.
II. THE COMMITTED LIFE SAVES FROM WORRY
Our Saviour reminds us that our Heavenly Father feedeth the fowls of the air, and that we are much better than they; therefore, why worry. The root meaning of worry is “to wear away by friction.” The Bible forbids worry: “Fret not thyself in any wise.”
III. THE COMMITTED LIFE SAVES FROM ENVY
“Neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.” It is such a comfort to be satisfied with one’s portion. Envy is as the rottenness of the bones. Covetousness leads to jealousy and resentment.
IV. THE COMMITTED LIFE IS ONE OF JOYFULNESS
Life becomes a delight. “Delight thyself also in the Lord.” Those who delight in the Lord have this wonderful promise, “He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
BUT WHAT ARE WE TO COMMIT?
A. COMMIT YOURSELF TO GOD
Commit your body, soul, and spirit as a living sacrifice. Rom. 12:1–2
Romans 12:1–2 KJV (WS)
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
B. COMMIT THY WAY UNTO THE LORD
Commit the unknown future to God; let Him map out your life for you.
C. COMMIT THY WORKS UNTO THE LORD
Commit your talents unto the Lord and thy thoughts shall be established. Prov. 16:3
Proverbs 16:3 KJV (WS)
Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
D. COMMIT YOUR BURDENS UNTO THE LORD
Roll that burden upon the Lord.” Casting all your care upon Him; for he careth for you.” “Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee; he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
E. COMMIT YOUR HEART COMPLETELY TO HIM
It is ours to do the committing; it is the Lord Himself who gives us the rest of heart.
NOTICE THE ORDER:
1. “Trust in the Lord.”
2. “Delight thyself also in the Lord.”
3. “Commit thy way unto the Lord.”
4. “Rest in the Lord.”
