4 types of leadership

You are a leader. The question is what type of leader are you.
I believe we can find an example of at least 4 types in the bible that I want o highlight for you tonight.
I’m going to demonstrate this with my amazing artistic ability.
Let’s first draw 4 boxes. We can say these boxes are the vision God has given for your area of ministry and our church.
The first style of leadership can be found demonstrated by Saul in 1 Samuel 15. This is a passive leader.
Without turning there or going over it, This is where Saul loses his kingship because of his disobedience ot the Lord.
God gave him instructions and vision, and he allowed anything to happen without being apart of it or you could also say he went against it.
This looks like this.
The vision goes no where
The second type of leader you can be is a manager
2 kings 5
This is where Namaan goes to be healed by Elisha. In it we see him manage the vision and use the people to accomplish it.
He isn’t doing anything about it but telling everyone else what they are supposed to be doing.
A manager tells what to do but isn’t involved
The third type of leader is a dictator
1 Kings 12, we have a new king determine to be a dictator to the people rather than serve them.
Draw peron standing on box.
He is standing on the vision God has for his people and driving them without serving them to accomplish it His way andd his way only.
A dictator tells others what to do and seeks elevate themself
The 4th type of leader is a Servant
2 Timothy 2:2 KJV 1900
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
See this example in Paul, Jesus, and in Timothy
Draw people
A Servant leader brings other along. Puts others in the right position, and pulls their own weight.
Doesn’t mean they are involved in EVERYTHING going on. You may know what’s going on but not be apart of it. I know there is a worship night but I’m not attending the practices.

Relationship between servant leaders

In the church the pastor can be thought of as a shepherding CEO. I know, people don’t like to think of the church with business terms but the way we operate the ministry here and in most ministry contexts, it lends towards best practices when it comes to the business side of things.
The church isn’t a business or an organizaion, it’s an organism that focuses on people over profit. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t steward both the family and the finances in the best way we possibly can.
While there may be a final decision maker, that decision maker, me, must be equipping and enabling leaders to lead in their areas or we won’t be a church with servant leaders we will be a church with a dictator.
I dont’ want to be a dictator. I’m not good in all areas. I cast vision, I preach, I equip the saints for the work of the ministry. And I’m still developing in all of those areas.
How do we work together though? By lovingly leading and listening to one another.
you can lead me. You can lead the person next to you. You can lead someone on your ministry team.
How? Love on them. Love on them with apprecciation, kindness, and time together. Don’t wait for the pastor to scchedule an appreciation meal. Tell me you want one and let’s make sure it doesn’t impact our calendar and then do it. Need money? Let’s talk about it. Need help setting up? Great, go talk to people.

How I lead

I wanted to share withy ou a summar of how I lead
I lean on SME when possible
Use my inner circle as a sounding board
If it’s something I believe God would have us to do, I seek to bring my inner circle along, then those who have in influence in the church, and then the whole body.
At any point I welcome a contradictory opinion form anyone. I may not agree with you and you may not agree with me, but that doesn’t mean I don’t respect you or I don’t love you. It means we have different opinions.

Being a following leader

For someone who isn’t the one in charge I’d use the term servant elader and or follwoing leader to describe you. We are all following someone, it’s my responsibilty to go to God and make sure I/we are following him.
How can you be an effective servant leader in the church?
Be engaged when you are here: this shows interest and concern for future of the ministry.
Understand your idea may not be chosen
Bring other along with an idea you don’t understand or completely agree with
NEVER speak negatively of leaders or anyone for that matter
Develop Others intentionally
Followers will only seek to accomplish the task, Leaders will seek to choose the task and develop others to accomplish it with them.
