Psalm 112
The Righteous Will Never Be Moved
It is called a En-comb-ium- which is one of the most refreshing and artistic forms in the Bible. One that praises God or a person. This Psalm praises the Blessed man.
An Encomium has an introduction to the subject that will be praised, in this Psalm it’s the Blessed man.
This Psalm will show traits and actions of the subject and will end showing the reward of the Blessed man, with a conclusion to you to want to be the blessed man.
Vs 1 we see it starts praise ye the Lord, but the praise is to the blessed man that fears God and keeps His commandments.
Vs. 2-8 We will see all the traits and actions of the blessed man.
Vs. 9 conclusion of the blessed man, he hath dispersed given all he had physically and spiritually.
Vs. 10 persuades us to want to be the blessed man.
Praise ye the LORD.
1. Blessed is the man (Vs. 1)
a. thatfeareth the LORD,
b. thatdelighteth greatly in his commandments.
i. A blessed man: Matt 6:33.
ii. A blessed man makes God 1st in his life and shows that example to his family.
iii. A blessed man makes me think of : The Beatitudes
1. Blessed are the poor in spirit
2. Blessed are they that mourn:
3. Blessed are the meek
4. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness:
5. Blessed are the merciful
6. Blessed are the pure in heart
7. Blessed are the peacemakers
8. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake:
2. His seed (Vs. 2)
a. shall be mighty upon earth
i. We see first they shall be mighty
ii. I like to think of David taking Goliath,
iii. David’s mighty men.
iv. Joshua be courageous
v. They are might because with God on our side we can do all things.
vi. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
b. the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
i. Joshua 24:15
ii. Children of Israel served the Lord all his life and the life of elders that outlived Joshua.
iii. The blessed mans family will be mighty and blessed.
3. Wealth and riches
a. shall be in his house
i. I think we are talking about the spiritual house here
ii. Jesus says in Matthew 6:21 “Lay up your treasures in Heaven, where moths nor rust corrupt, and where thieves do not break through or steal, for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
iii. Matthew 5:3 “Blessed are the poor in Spirit: for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.”
iv. We know Lazarus was a Godly man because he is in Abraham’s bosom but was a poor man on earth, his treasure was in heaven.
b. and his righteousness endureth forever.
i. I love the KJV Endureth: meaning literally forever, never stopping, wealth and riches in heaven will never stop, that’s why our treasure needs to be there.
ii. Vs 2-3 we see that a godly man that feareth the Lord and obey His commandments will be blessed and his whole family will be blessed.
iii. We see Godly leadership starts in the home
iv. As men of the house if we want our children to be blessed and spiritually wealthy, we will show them we put God first even over them.
v. We must be an example. There is nothing more important in this world then God. Worshipping Him on Sunday is more important than Sports, gymnastics, Superbowl, birthday party, etc.
4. Unto the upright
a. there ariseth light in the darkness:
i. Matthew 5:16
ii. 1 John 1:7 “If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from all sin.”
b. he isgracious,
c. and full of compassion,
d. and righteous.
i. All these characteristics remind us of Jesus.
ii. And we are to be imitators of Jesus, being Christians.
5. A good man
a. sheweth favour,
b. and lendeth:
i. A Christian is one that shows compassion for one another.
ii. When he sees his brother in need, he lends him a hand or whatever he needs.
iii. A Christian is not stingy with his hands or possessions.
iv. 1 John 3:17 “But whoso hath this worlds good, and seeth his brother have need , and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in Him.”
c. he will guide his affairs with discretion.
i. A blessed man is to be honest and discrete with everyone
ii. In other words, we want to be someone that people can come to and ask of something without being embarrassed or offended.
iii. We must lend with love in word and in deed.
iv. A Blessed man lends in the best of his ability as a servant of God.
6. Surely he shall not be moved forever:
i. Not be moved forever: I think the Psalmist is talking about when the blessed man is rooted in God’s Word.
ii. When we have the full armor of God on
iii. When we pray always without ceasing
iv. That nothing in this world can move us.
b. The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance:
1. The righteous will be remembered forever because their names will be in the book of life.
2. Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
7. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings:
i. A Blessed man is not afraid of evil news. Think about all the evil news going on in the world today.
ii. A Blessed man is not to fear anything but God.
iii. Society and our news thrive on putting fear in the people, look at how Covid put fear in society.
iv. When in reality people should be in fear of dyeing outside of Christ, because this world is not our home and if we would rather be alive in this world then alive in eternity then we have a problem.
v. Back to a Blessed man is one who fears God and keeps His commandments.
b. his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
i. The blessed man has his heart fixed on the one purpose to go to heaven and take as many as he can with him.
ii. The blessed man puts all his trust on the Lord
iii. Jerimiah 17: 7-8 “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.”
c. His heart is established,
i. He shall not be afraid,
1. Since the blessed man eyes are fixed on the Lord
2. He has put the Lord first in his life.
3. His heart is established and again we see he shall not be afraid.
4. In both vs 7 and 8 we see do not be afraid.
ii. until he sees his desire upon his enemies.
1. His desires are the temptations of the flesh.
2. 1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the World

Do Not Love the World

1Jn 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
1Jn 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
8. He hath dispersed,
a. he hath given to the poor
b. his righteousness endureth forever
i. We see Apostle Paul says this same message when talking about God loveth a cheerful giver in 2 Corinthians 9:9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth forever.
ii. This is also 3rdtime we see “and his righteousness endurth forever”, in verse 3,6, and 9 showing the importance of the blessed man to be remembered forever.
c. his horn shall be exalted with honour.
i. Here we are seeing the Judgement, the blessed man shall be honored.
ii. Honor from God not of man
iii. This is eternal Joy that the blessed man has been waiting for.
iv. Well, done thou good and faithful servant.
v. The first 9 verses were talking about the blessed man, and now the table has turned in verse 10. We are going to talk about the wicked man.
vi. This is the Encomium persuading us to want to be the blessed man!
9. The wicked (Vs 10)
a. shall see it,
b. and be grieved;
i. What will they see that makes them grieve?
ii. Perhaps at the Judgement they will see those that were righteous getting their great reward
iii. Perhaps they see someone that tried to teach them the Gospel and they rejected them.
iv. There are many people that go to the grave that will have regret but it’s too late.
v. Many will realize they should have been taking care of their spiritual life and not their short physical life.
vi. Many will finally realize how short life is.
vii. And really how the blessed man had it much better than they did, but it’s too late.
10. He shall gnash with his teeth,
i. Could you image that gnashing of teeth, because the wicked man finally realized he was wrong his whole life.
ii. They cared their whole life about their physical body and physical needs; and at judgement they will see the righteous get the upper hand while they will perish.
iii. Image those that knew the truth and fell away; the regret they will have for eternity. Knowing the truth departing from it, that’s double the punishment.
iv. Have you ever done something for a long time in your life thinking you were right and found out you were actually wrong?
b. and melt away:
c. the desire of the wicked shall perish.
11. We see the blessed man is one that fears the Lord and keeps his commandments.
a. He is a light,
b. He is gracious,
c. He shows compassion,
d. He is righteous.
e. The blessed man does good works for those in need.
f. He is not afraid of bad news
g. his heart is fixed on the Lord.
h. And In the end He will be honored.
12. The wicked is the opposite
a. He does not keep the commandment of God but of men.
b. He is walks in darkness,
c. He does not show grace to others,
d. does not show compassion,
e. lives unrighteous.
f. He is afraid of bad news
g. his heart is fixed on the world.
h. he will perish.
“When you were born you wept, and others rejoiced. Live so that when you die, others will weep, and you will rejoice.” Tom Wacaster
We need to live a life like the blessed man, one that keeps God commandments and fears God.
