WHY STUDY THE BIBLE
Quote: If you LEARN God’s word then we will LOVE God’s word and if you LOVE God’s word then you will LIVE God’s word.
Why should we as believers even study the Bible in the first place? Here are four reasons why Bible study is essential for the believer.
1. To Grow SPIRITUALLY
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may GROW up in your salvation...
1 Pet. 2:2
Note: The KJV says “ desire the sincere milk of the word “
Note: That word “ sincere “ means — unadulterated, unmixed, uncut, undiluted, pure, not watered down
Quote: Time devoted to the word of God is time devoted to God.
1 Blessed is the man That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; And in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That bringeth forth his fruit in his season; His leaf also shall not wither; And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
Note: Separated from the World — Satisfied with the Word — He’s Situated by the Waters
2. VICTORY over Sin.
Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Eph. 6:17
Note: “ The sword, which is the word of God in Ephesians 6 “ Paul was giving use a visual biblical picture of hand-to-hand combat UP CLOSE FIGHTING with a dagger
Note: Paul wants us to fight with the sword because if we don’t, any spiritual engaging apart from the word of God you engage in trickery with your opponent.
I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:11
Quote: Someone said “ The word of God will keep you from SIN or SIN will keep you from the word of God
3. To be EQUIPPED to SERVE with our SPIRITUAL GIFTS
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to PREPARE and EQUIP his people to do every good work.
2 Tim. 3:16-17
4. To SHARE and DEFEND OUR FAITH
Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.
1 Pet. 3:15
